PS3 News \ Sony Speaks Up About 2.40 Issue
the question on all the sony gamer's minds is what caused 2.40 to crash? well we were left in the dark for a little amount of time, but now we have official news on what caused this long awaited update to affect some playstation 3 models.
ThreeSpeech were issued the speech by SCEE, and the answer to the problem was;
It seems that there was a problem, which prevented a small number of playstation 3's to activate properly after installation of Firmware 2.40. the bricking of the software was by system administrative data, which then led to the unseeable XMB on the interface.
Those who were affected have been asked by sony to contact the customer services and will recieve a replacement ps3 with firmware 2.41 already loaded on it. the speech also mentions that users who successfully installed 2.40 will not suffer from any issues caused by this.

i was lucky and d/l 2.41, but whats sony going to do about this not happening in the future? I know a replacment ps3 with the correct firmware is good compensation but I'd be pretty annoyed at loosing all my save games, themes etc....

sigh... good thing i was gone for a long time. i was'nt able to download the update because i was gone for a long time so i got lucky.

I wonder if someone has a 60gb PS3 that was affected, would they get a replacement 60gb PS3? Or a 40gb with extras or something? Glad I won't find out (didn't download 4.40

Yea I was thinking if they stoped making the 60gb how would they replace my ps3????? But lucky mine works fine and well. I didn't even relised there was a problem if I didn't come online and checked that the firmware had a bug lol.
