Lastly, what would anyone recommend watching or listening to on long car trips?

Ps. I have acquired three audio books so far - Bible Old Testament, Bible New Testament and A Brief History of time.

Alright lets see. SD cards can get very big (as in 8GB and bigger I suppose nowadays) but it depends on what your device can handle. My old phone used to take SD cards but could only get a maximum of 1GB storage into it.

A good program I use for video conversion is AutoGK.

You can change how big you want it to be. It will set the quality it encodes it at so that it fits the size you specify.

Well i have it positioned in the middle of the front windscreen, about half a foot towards the drivers side.
