Hi,

I have bigpond cable broadband on my pc at home, which is in another room to my playstation and I was wondering what will be the easiest way to connect my ps3 to the net.
If anyone else has bigpond cable and has connected to the net could be really helpful. I noticed someone on another thread saying the bigpond modems don't have extra ports for routers....

I noticed the WiFi Max in the accessories section. Would this work?

Thanks

im with bigpond and that is exactly how im hooked up and it is the easiest way. you can connect a router to you bigpond modem using your existing port and run your comp and ps through the router, but its a waste of time. a new WiFi modem will cost probably the same as a good router (about $150) and once its running on your comp your ps3 will pick it up straight away. no cables, no hassle.

You can get a decent Dlink router with wireless and 4 built in lan ports for around $100.

On Ebay they have 'WiFi Link USB Wireless Lan for PSP PS3 NDSL Wii Game AU' which seem to be imported from Hong Kong.

Do you know if these would work? they are only $20

haynzy that thing is useless. u need a wireless modem or router to send a connection to the ps3, and the ps3 has inbuilt hardware to pick up the connection.
go on your ps3 now and search wireless, if anyone in your neighbourhood as a wireless connection u can hook up to them and be online in 10min lol.

yeah i have bigpond cable and they sold me a wifi modem/router for $79.......but it SUCKS, when i want to play online i have to disconnect everything else from the net first or ill drop out, so dont let them talk you into that one, i think its a SBG900 or SG9000 or some ****

i got mine maybe 2-3 months ago for about $150 so maybe they sold u a dodgy one cheap lol i dunno but mine runs perfect.

could be......cos in theory yeah i should be a host all the time (i got the super dooper 17mbps plan too).....i think though it also may have something to do with my building......i live in a 10 storey place with about 140 apartments, so im thinking with all the signal amplifiers and stuff on each level etc......i dunno, something.......the second time i had a tech guy out here to fix my connection he said one of the amplifiers was set too HIGH?!?! so apparently i will get no signal if its amplified too low OR too high, it has to be juuuust right (like baby bears porridge), i dunno how much of it all is BS.......but i do know i shouldnt be paying $110 a month for this crap

I'm just curious, can you have a Wireless Bridge connected to your PS3's ethernet port? I'm really tempted to take advantage of 802.11N ...

im not exactly sure on the terminology, but at one point i was using wireless broadband, but had problems trying to create a wireless network so i was hooking it up via ethernet cable, then there were problems with the network so i created a "network bridge" which worked, but i dont have 802.11N so i doubt it was the same thing youre talking about......

whats the point of a wireless bridge when the ps3 has wireless?? oh i see, .11n. never mind

i thought its wireless was dodgy (kept getting 65% or thereabouts on the other side of the house) and since i upgraded to a newer version of my netgear DG834G its been a steady 80-85%

bonus is that medialink now works to my macbook

Hence why I'm considering. Only things holding me back is if its performance is exceptionally good, fast ... and because 802.11N is still Draft-N ...

And yea, my current 802.11G connection with my DG834G is at 85% thanks to a coke can ...

Maybe both. Multiplayer gaming online ...

I don't really stream stuff from the PC. Don't find it that 'appealing' ...

will you be doing other stuff on your home network at the same time?

.11g has more than enough capacity for gaming alone...

I was just wondering, you know, if N will be significantly better than G.

G's good, it's doing its job and I'm quite happy with it. No lag etc when I'm playing COD4 on PS3 or SSBB on Wii ...

However I'm wondering if I can get an EVEN BETTER performance with Draft-N lol ...
