Sony's holiday offer of a free 40 gig PS3 with a new Bravia LCD TV has worked wonders for Sony on both the gaming and TV side of things. Many Australians, including many Myps3 members, jumped at the chance to receive a free PS3 along side of their brand spanking new full HD Bravia LCD TV.

Michael Ephraim head of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia said "more than 28,000 PS3s were given away as part of the promotion, which ran from December 21, 2007, to January 28, 2008. On the Bravia PS3 offer, we're now up to 28,000-plus--these are audited numbers from Sony. They have taken about a 30 percent market in flat screens for the month of January off the back of that promotion."

Sony's most recent sales figures state they have sold 155,000 PS3's in Australia up until the end of 2007. Industry tracker GfK did not take the 28,000 consoles that Sony gave away as part of the offer as they do not count hardware that has been given away free of charge. This means that the Australian PS3 user base is now around the 180,000 mark compared with 300,000 for the Wii and 306,000 for the Xbox 360.
