News \ [Rumor] Slimmer PS3 with 160GB HD?
Well the rumour mill has been churning hard with numerous gaming web sites posting claims that Sony have plans for a slimmer, lighter PS3 with a 160GB hard drive, not only that this new version of the PS3 may be using a new 45nm Cell Broadband engine and a smaller Blu-ray laser diode and come packaged with the Dual Shock 3 controller, at this present moment this mostly speculation and Sony has responded by saying that they do not comment on rumours, which is what they said when information about the PSP receiving a size reduction was leaked out early, and by watching at how Sony keep refining all their video game consoles in the past there is a very good chance that they will keep with that tradition.

agree, it will probably be released like maybe ps4? Similar to the concept of psone and ps2 where they release slim versions of the consoles when the next gen is in place.

I thought they would wait a bit longer to release a thiner version. I always found the on the thiner PS2, the DVD player was not as good as the original PS2. That was just me tho and I had 2 think PS2 and 1 Fat bugger

Yeah Skua your probably right If there is a slim PS3 it would probably be bigger than that anyway

wow thats a good eye suka. yeh if you look closely at that pic its just a wii choped in half with the old silver ps3's top put on it. These arnt offical pics just mock up's by T3 as to what a slim ps3 might look like.

it had better be ps2 backward compat.. well i can wish anyway..
looks good though, but also better have a front loader disc tray etc.. just a smaller version of the original 60gb ps3, that would be sweet
i like the idea of a more efficient ps3

i donno bout this. they did the PS2 in slimline, and with no fan in it, mine s*** itself 2 times cause of overheating. but if they have a fan in this slim modle, thats great, can't c any downsides

I think the parts inside would be smaller like the blu-ray. Id get it. But if 60 gig was $1000 then 160 gig would be.....?
Hopefully smaller blu ray= cheaper to make. Then the price would be reasonable.

My first post but I needed to say it . I work as the Dept Manager of Wal-Mart electronics in my area. Sony rep told me 4 days ago we are losing the 80 gig ps3 and getting the 160 gig model March 24th . Not a SLIIM PS3 but one with a 160 gig hard drive. Thought I'd share as I personaly am excited . Also , who cares about a slim ps3? honestly does anyone look at their ps3 and think how much theud like a slim version??

A slim version won't be out for quite a while.
But when one is brought out, I won't bother to get it.
Personally I don't like the slimmer versions of Sony consoles. The original ones look better in my opinion.

If this happened i would probably sell my ps3 as quite frankly i am pissed with the way Sony keeps changing it (60gig,40gig,80gig,slimmer) i paid good money for my ps3 and dont want to already feel like i was ripped off 
And just to get something else off my chest how crappy are ps3 controllers? i hate them their too small, the sticks are too close together and they feel so light and cheap so last generation, why cant they swap the dpad and the left stick most games use analogue now and it would feel so much better like the 360 pad.

I dont think it's true either.. I mean it'll come, but not for a few years I believe, as they've already made lots of changes to the PS3's just recently (i.e. introduction of 40 gig to the Aus market)..
Even if this does happen, you can bet that Aus wont receive it til a good 6 to 12 months after the US anyway :/
Hmm at this stage I don't beleive it, but it could be true :s
