Last week many XBOX gamers where overjoyed reading a press release from Microsoft stating that GTA sold more on their platform than it's rival. Well Sony Computer Entertainment Australia's Managing Director, Michael Ephraim states that this is false. Supposedly Microsoft did not take into account the 5000 PS3 GTA IV bundles that were sold, therefore calculated units sold 5000 less than what it actually was. Exact numbers have not been added up as such but Ephraim believes that the PS3 has outsold 360 definitely.


As Ephraim explains, "You might have seen the local Microsoft press release that came out last week. Well, I want to tell you that that is completely wrong, because what they failed to communicate or add was the 5000 GTA PS3 bundles that were sold in that week. When you add that in, the PS3 SKU outsold the 360 SKU definitely. We can't comment on GTA numbers – just that one bundle and that PS3 outsold 360 at EB – and their figures aren't factored into GfK statistics."


What all of this means is, Microsoft's initial claim of victory in the Australian marketplace during GTA IV's release week was premature and misleading. As soon as the figures come in, then there will be some clarification and concrete evidence on which console actually sold the most copies of GTA IV.
