Sony has posted their fiscal year 08 quarter 01 results, which cover the period between April and June. Sony's game devision made ¥229 billion up from ¥196 billion in the same time period last year. Which puts them at a ¥5.2 billion yen profit, compaired to FY07's Q01 lose of ¥29.2 billion yen.
In the hardware platform breakdown the PS3 saw the most change with 123% growth in sales from FY07 Q1, with 1.56 million units being sold in 08. This can most likely be attributed to the release of both GTA IV and MGS4 within this quarter. The PSP also saw strong growth over last year with at 75% increase. The PS2 continue its downward sales trend as the aging system moved 43% fewer units than it did in the pervious year.
on the software front, While PS3 sales where up a whopping 385% over last year moving 22.8 units. However PS2 sales slid 38% causing software sales to be down overall compared to FY07 Q01 results. The PSP had a small 20% rise in software sales, but it continues to sell poorly in the light of strong hardware sales.
