i have the exact same problem occasionally, i use wired. the solution is to, switch off modem and disable network connection in the ps3;s network settings, turn modem back on, let it start up, when its online enable connection. it always works for me. hope it helps.

Only time I have this issue is when Im downloading on my PC , the signal strength drops & the PS3 disconnects. The only solution I have is I dont go online with the PS3 when downloading.

I fixed the problem by turning the ps3 system off at the main switch and leaving it for about 30 minutes. Then I turned it back on and then signed in.

im wired connection, so im useless.... i did have similiar problems to start with, so i just set all my internet setting on my ps3 to Auto .... wish i had wireless...but from what i've seen wireless connections are always dropping out, or reseting... (the lower signal connections???) but any connection is better than none.
