I did a couple of the updates and all is fine. Some of the games you.... "aquire" come with updates built into them, like Paper Mario, US version. It bricked alot of Pal consoles apparently. But I wait and make sure the games work before wrecking my little white machine.
I haven't looked at what updates I can get for my chip or anything since I got my PS3.

Depends on what she wants to play. I hardly ever use my Wii because of the lack of online play (Strikers online is **** because I keep getting paired with guys in the top 10 and get raped). Wii Sports is fun at first but gets boring. If she's not a fan of the big Nintendo games, then don't get it.
