Playstation 2 & Playstation 1 \ Thinking of Buying PS2

Hey, i'm thinking of buying a ps2, only because that there is already a wide variety of games, and still more to come. But i have a few questions.

Should i get a used original/slim or brand new slim? I don't want to spend more than i have to, but if i can find a preowned in good quality, i'd probably take it. Also, is it worth getting a 4x controller adapter? do many games utalise all for players?

Any help much appreciated.

WOAH! A PS2 lol

ummm... i'd just get the original one cos they are basically the same except the original one is cheaper.

There are quite a few games that can use 4 controllers... but it is not essential, when i had a PS2 i was happy with 2 controller ports

What types of games do you like?

have you ever put a slimline ps2 next to a xbox?
it's scary how small the ps2 is compared to it

go for new slimline - very cheap. Big W/JB Hi-Fi perhaps?

What is the difference between the Slimline and the Original?
Isn't the Slimline just smaller?

PS2 Slimline + 2 Games + Controller + Memory Card

All that for about $150 at most stores.

Controller - about $20
8MB Memory Card $24 at JB Hi-FI
Games - from anywhere between $15 and $80

Actually, I'd like a PS2 as well... I held off buying one because I thought I'd have a PS3 by now... and seeing as they've removed backwards compatibility, I won't have one for a very long time That's what you get for downgrading, Sony... but have you guys got any idea of how long slim PS2's will be available for new? I mean before they phase them out completely? I still have a few PS2 games I'd like to play, and they're not all that expensive... should have held onto my original PS2, like, those things were sexy! Absolutely the second hottest looking console after the original Xbox! xD Don't want some bastard's second hand one though...

Also! This might be off topic, but would they give me much for a PSP towards a PS2 at EB or wherever?

Big W is probably best but just about anywhere is good these days.

Good Idea to check out the pre-owned stuff at EB and JB they some times have some awesome games going very cheap.

You joking man? I remember not that long ago, these bad boy's had a minimum trade in value of about $160... I'll ring up and ask... Sony spends a lot more than $40 on the materials that go into a PSP, it's got to be worth more...

Yeah I have a PSP Fat and would not trade it in for slim.. If I was silince I would forget about getting a PS2 and get a PSP as I think it is the same thing and most of the games came out on PSP also came out on PS2.

Welcome to the site Stefan! I think you are going to be very happy with the Slimline PS2 - either owned or preowned. There are literally hundreds and nearly thousands of PS1 and PS2 games, what's better, is that the Slimline PS2 has a built in Ethernet port so you could play online games.

Sadly, not many PS2 games fully utilise 4 controllers, except for the party games such as Buzz and Eye Toy.

I would suggest you go for a brand new slim PS2, because you never know what kind of problem the old PS2 may inherit. It is also a worthwhile investment because if you are going to get a PS3, you would have to use your PS2 in order to play PS2 games, since PS2 games cannot be played on a PS3.

Hope I've helped
