i know adsl 2+ is potentially alot faster but talking to some poeple online playing fifa who have cable and say that it is far more relaible for gaming online..
im only on an 1500/256k plan but that is generally considered good for gaming but fifa for me quite often drops out or lags..
ive never had cable but for people who have had both whic would you say is more reliable?
who cares about speed

I use to have ADSL2+ 20mb/sec and playing online was'nt to bad.

I'd say go with ADSL2+ cuz there arnt many ppl who have it coz's its expensive..

Cable is a lot more reliable because it has its own line, instead of sharing the phoneline. Say, a lot of people experience drop outs for ADSL and their internet speed depends on how far they are from the exchange. Cable on the other hand provides more stable internet and speed, if you're promised 5mbps, then you'll get somewhere around there.

Usually ADSL is better for gaming because it has a faster upload speed. There's some other "ping" stuff which I don't know about.

My exchange screwed up I'm getting 4mb/s where I should be getting 10mb/s - heck I live 10 minutes away from the exchange!

yeah ive heard cable is better for games alot more reliable..
i know upload is important but the phone line quality plays a big part in drop outs..adsl2 supposedly doesnt really change that..
im thinking of going optus cable..

Yep, Optus is killing its ADSL2+ lately, have you seen their new policy? My God!! They are charging excess usage now!

15c/Mb - if you spend over $300 then you get slowed down.

Optus = internet's RED RING OF DEATH

I would go cable all the way as well, and don't tell anyone I told you this, but they are about to launch 60mb/s cable soon to battle with Telstra's 30mb/s

Optus/Telstra = bad companies, stay away..

dingoboy unless you're close to the exchange I wouldn't get it..

also apparently that 1.5mb internet is still one of the best for gaming, better then 8mb and 24 mb. the speed doesn't matter cuz theres like a cap. it isnt like ur gonna get like 50 ping in usa servers.

anyway, check out how far you are from the exchange then decide whether to get it. if you don't do this u'll regret it alot cuz you won't get the full speed.

cable is pretty good for gaming though.

so heres a summary:

Stay away from companies such as: optus, bigpond (telstra), dodo.
adsl+2 speeds vary depending on how far you are from the exchange
1.5mb adsl is excellent for gaming
internode is the best gaming/best quality isp out there

whirlpools.net.au the biggest internet forum in australia the overwhelming choice was internode as best isp and especially for games..
ive just signed up to adsl 2+ with internode as they have interleaving and the are the only isp to do so..
adsl2+ is better for gaming with some isp`s but 1500/256 is still very good..
although my aapt 1500k download speed is too slow and cuts out heaps so i ned to switch..
$65 cancelltion fee with internode is nothing anyway
