theres your problem, your modem isnt capable of gigabit ethernet, the ps3 though is capable and gigabit is recommended for a faster connection so to get the full speed of your internet u should get a gigabit connection

My phoneline is causing all sorts of interference problems with my net at the moment at least thats what Telstra is telling me - Id love cable but cant get it 
where I live.
BTW anyone know if upgrading your connection from 1500 to 8mb/s (I moved from Iprimus to Telstra) could cause problems with my phone line - Ive installed all the filters etc but Telstra say the contiunual drop outs must be my phone line interference NOt their service. A call out fee to check it out could cost me over $160 if it was my fault. I mean - can increased speed stress my connection as it didnt do this with Iprimus. I used to get drop outs but a LOT less often. Any help would be appreicated.

are you suggesting getting a new modem or just switching to a faster connection i.e adsl2? cuase i have just done that but i am keeping my modem..

I've been on optus cable ever since it rolled out last century. I've had maybe two outages from optus and I don't even recall when exactly it was so long ago. And the only other problem I had just turned out to be coax cable termination.
ADSL is apparently better for gaming as you will get better ping times. CAble is more of a daisy chained arrangement, where adsl is straight to the exchange

i upgraded my bigpond plan today i was recently on 256/64 and i didnt realize what i was missing out on but today i changed it to (12gb) DL limit and 1500/256 was that a wise decision or should i went up to a higher plan?

yeah cable would have less drop outs but better chance of connecting with adsl 2 probably because of lower pings

Internode ADSL2+, you cant get a better ISP in Australia for gaming, amazingly low pings and reliability second to none.
Internode is synonomous with online gaming in OZ.

just churned to internode adsl1..will switch to adsl2 next month..
internode seem to be the word around..
