anyone can confirm the download size?
if its not too big, then it prob isnt a very major update. doesnt really matter though, updates are (usually) good for everyone

cant be optional. who knows how it could effect the game or even unrelated games in online play. everyone HAS to have the same firmware and game version to play against each other.
like it matters. go get a sandwich and take a break from your 24/7 gaming and hope that the update fixed one of your favourite games.

cool.. thanks for that. i can download away when i get home tonight, no need to wait for off peak internet. it doesnt wipe out any game saves, right? sorry ifs its a noob question

you can get it for your computer im not sure about mac though, no reason it shouldnt work then copy to USB.

I found this weird. Only realised it this time, because I watched the update process (I was tired after work haha 
)
Anyway, once the installation process got to 52% ... the PS3 restarted itself.
What the hell? =/

Same kinda thing happened to me but it didnt restart it just showed a grey screen...

Well, like ... screen went blank, and my PS3 showed "Sony Computer Entertainment" with the orchestra start-up sound.

thats because when it gets to 52% the rest is downloaded really quickly. if you see it gets to 52 then goes to 100 straight away thats what happened to me.

yep that what it does. So in saying that what happens (theoretically) is that the bigger files are downloaded first and the the smaller ones hence why it takes a longer time to initiate and increase in percentage at the beginning. Then the console will restart and initiate the install process.

Oh, nothing went wrong on my side. I checked System Settings and it says v2.35 now.
I'm just really puzzled why it would jump from 52% straight to 100%. Fishy ain't it?
PS: I was referring to the installation process, not the downloading.

YEAH WTF.
i tried to play GTAIV olnine last night immediately after updating
(to play without disconnecting, i need to go Custom Match/Deathmatch/Private Slots=1, so that i host.)
anyways, about 10 ppl connected, and then as it counted down, reached 0, and said STARTING GAME down the bottom right, it says "Disconnected. Loading Single Player." or something along the lines of that.
so now, rather than only being able to play when i host, now i cant play at all. 
im gonna go try again now, hopefully it was just a bug last night thats fixed itself.
