Playstation 3 Hardware \ COD4 just broke my PS3

Sony are reducing the quality of the lazers in order to save money. This faliure is starting to become alarmingly common, after the RROD saga you'd think sony would know better.

Sony better extend the warranty if these issues continue, I've herd it can cost $150US to replace the lazer out side of warranty.

Its more common on ps3's that get a lot of use.

camlew you are on my psn list and on your cod4 stats it says you have played the game online for what? i cant remember the exact number but its between 12 and 16 DAYS of game time, that does NOT include loading time, time spent waiting in the lobby/setting up parties and friendly matches etc. now im guessing that you dont own any other ps3 games that you have even come remotely close to those kinds of figures with......and the same goes for a whole hell of a lot of people. cod4 was and still is a MONSTER. alot of people play it alot of the time.
more people die every year from car crashes than air crashes, but that doesnt mean that its safer to fly an aeropplane than to drive a car!!! its a matter of numbers, pure and simple.



I don't see why that has anything to do with it. 16 days is jack all when ive had COD4 since release. I played COD4 for about 2 months because I didnt have the money as I had more important things to spend it on. I then got Burnout Paradise & Rainbow 6 vegas 2 which made me not play COD4. Then moved onto GTA IV. Today was my first day ive played GTA IV in a good few months and just happens to be the day my PS3 dies on me.

Edit- And its actually 8 days 17 hours and 50 minutes

You can get replacement lazer there was a thread adout this before, i think it was $150 to get it replaced with a warranty and they come to you and i though sony didn't fix ps3's out off warranty in au?

I'm not sure if they do, I read an article on kotaku where some yank had to pay $150US to replace the lazer out of warranty.

Either way its beginning to look more and more like the ps3's weren't built to last, which is a worry for those that spent 1k on launch and are already out of warranty.

camlew2 i feel your pain... KEEP on calling sony every day if not every second day from when they recieved it... i garuntee you i wouldnt have recieved mine when i did if i hadnt of been on there case... they tend to be forgetful

SONY does repair PS3's out of warranty for $150 and it takes 7weeks

The last time i checked sony arent asking for receipts to proof of purchase as its 'too early'... i lost my reciept(i shud shoot myself) and they told me to not worry because it wasnt a requirement at that stage

Its seems to be getting that way doesnt it... if you google search the actually error code 80010514... youll be amazed!!!

Atleast you have 2 of them... i waited for the GTA4 Ps3 bundle pack and got it from eb games for $750 and then i returned it back to them for cashback(free 7day hire), and for those 7days i was in my happy land

Sony need to act on this though. It feels like there are more MyPS3 people experiencing the Disk Read Error on the PS3 than there are My360 users getting the RRoD! :^)

also people have reported having the same problem with assasins creed, quite a few while that game was (semi) popular, also with HS and NFS..........

edit - gdmatt if ps3's werent meant to be able to run 12 hours+ per day, Folding would not be built in to every concole with written recommendations of how to use it!
