NoRC said: I have a feeling BD will win, because in the photography industry its all about storage. The melborne photography show the hype was all about 50gig BD vs 25gig HD. Which ever format can store more... will win this time.

Triple layer hd-dvd's are in the prototype stage and will hold more than 50 gigs. In the end i'm annoyed at sony for launching their hd medium after hd-dvd was established. Competing mediums will only slow the hd movie uptake and confuse consumers even more than they are already. The fact hd dvd uses a more advanced codec and all hd dvd players can connect to the internet for firmware updates has me leaning towards hd dvd. With regards to the ps3 I just want to play games, i'm not prepaired to fork out extra money for this "total entertainment" bollocks. Which is why i'll be waiting for a considerable price drop.
At the end of the day the first medium to provide "affordable" burners and blank media will win this war.

Blu-ray uses a far more superior laser if HD-DVD is more advanced why do you need firmware updates? not everyone has the internet you know. It was a good move by sony to include Blu-ray in the ps3. People don't want add-ons becomes a hassle when you can have it all in one system.
Don't care who wins now that I have both. And I know my ps3 will still play games.

Sony have allowed a Taiwan company to produce Blu-ray porn using their technology. As it's a third party, Sony can disasociate themselves and continue to be seen to maintain the moral high ground. They haven't forgotten the disaster that was betamax! VHS won that war on the 'back' of the porn industry. Sony wouldn't licence their technology, the rest is history. irrespective of your views on pornography, the fact remains that 9 out of 10 website hits are porn related. It's big, BIG, business!!!
