Haha, I had a converstaion about this with Winnie.
I ended up purchasing the Essential Collection anyway.

There is a way to play the PS1 game on my PSP, and my modded PS2 can play the American version of MGS2 and MGS3 on my modded PS2.

Should all be cool, seeing that I own a legal copy of the game.

I'm curious how MGS1 will perform on the PSP, without the 2nd analogue stick and L2/R2/L3/R3 ...

although it may be futile, and many have probably tried before...i just sent an email off to konami Oz, about the possibility of releasing the essential collection here....

i raised the point about there being a new swag of fans who's first MGS game was MGS4, and who want to play the old games, but due to the absolute rarity of all 3 these days to get them all via ebay could cost upwards of $300. Basically i tried to make them take pity on us MGS newbies...lol

yeah that the way i would go as well, if i did not have any of the previous games. its a good deal, $32 for 3 great games. can your ps2 play games from any region?

i've got all mgs1 (with the additional virtual missions in my pc somewhere), mgs2, mgs3 and mgs3 subsistence.. yes, i am a MGS addict

^If it's determined by video standard, then they should work, because UK is PAL too. But if by DVD region (because PS2 uses DVD format), then they cannot work because UK is Region 2, Australia is Region 4. I'm not sure what is the classification for PS2. My gut is they should work for being the same PAL version

have you tried checking out any other local shops around here? i take it you live kinda close to sydney,since u mentioned chatswood above?? i could possibly pick one up for u if i see copies at bondi or eastgardens, where i tend to go more often

I actually bought a UK PAL version PS2 game "Saint Seiya The Hades" a while back. Haven't got time to use it because I sold my PS2 console. I plan to buy another PS2 console soon...

But here is the interesting thing, I had a NTSC-J version PS2 console bought from Indonesia like one year ago and being NTSC-J I assume it's Japanese console... so I bought a AUS PAL PS2 game "FFX-2" and it worked. Obviously the video standards are different as the console was NTSC-J and the game was PAL, but the DVD Regions are also different as Japan is Region 2 and Aus is Region 4.

hmm.. i think its cuz possibly the console has been "tampered" with, if you get my drift

nice work wutang.. despite the graphics showing its age, its a damn good game, no? now i feel like getting back into that game, but i wanna play mgs4 again on hard first

MGS2 - i dont think so. but MGS3 i'm pretty sure is dual layer, i wonder why you're asking
