History is dotted with instances of people turning on their neighbours based on nothing more than ideology...and the fact they could with the support of the State or the religious powers with whom they are aligned; do so with impunity.

Yes, closed-minded to things which degrade society such as murder and racism. All I'm saying is that there is a right and a wrong way of saying something. As a medical student I can't go around calling people idiots for not having the same level of understanding of the anatomy of the eye for instance. If they are wrong, you merely need to explain things in a way which clarifies things.

I agree, but witch my basic understanding of the eye (only the basics and mostly in relation to visual perception) I would not try to teach a group of students on it. I know I'm exaggerating a hell of a lot but it's just to clarify my point.
