Race Driver Grid: Review - 9/10

Graphics 8/10: Codemasters have put a lot of effort into supplying excellent graphics into grid and they are outstanding and there is not a lot of fault but I give it an 8 because I feel they went over the top with the blur effect on the lighting and a few other minor flaws, but that is not to say that if you are just playing the game it is near enough flawless. This is a game that doesn't have graphics that seem to look good for a while but soon you realise how bad they are, Grid brings graphics that you love to look at and makes the experience more interesting than if they seemed to decay after a while.


Gameplay 9/10: Grid has a different feel from other racing games that you cant describe, you can only enjoy. You go from 200mph on a straight to 1mph round the corner and the computer AI is intelligent but can sometimes play too dirty and cause frustration, this causes gamers to be stressed and gamers getting stressed is the last thing you want to do. The AI on your team also shows signs of progression, they can go from the back of the pack to the front in the space of a season. There are many different events in the game which will leave you busy for hours. Some of the events in Grid are straight forward, race the circuit and win but there is a new event called Touge. Touge is racing on narrow Japanese mountains and you have two runs and the quickest overall time wins. One up the mountain and one down the mountain, whilst racing the player behind cant make contact with the player in front or you face a time penalty which can make a huge difference. There are also changes to game modes like free drift or drifting with 12 other racers on the track.

Story/Background 9/10: Race Driver Grid is a racing game that hasn't really got a background story but there is a bit of a story behind it. You start of as a driver for hire trying to get enogh money and enough respect to start his/her own team. You have an invester who invest money into you so you have to prove her investment worthy. When you finally get your team you choose the name, the decals that go on your cars and even your sponsors. As you sign on sponsors that slap their logo all over you car. You also hire drivers for your team who will interact with you during the race. Having a teammate makes it easier for your team to win races and he will make more money for you by winning the races and completing the sponsors objectives for each race. Your team mate progresses throughout the season and also shows his true skill when you race them in their speciality.

So to wrap up my first review here's a summary: If you aren't a fan of the racing genre then rent it and go from there. If you have some form of interest in the racing genre then buy one now.
