PS3 Online \ ONLINE multiplayer Gaming??

Xzadur8 says:

I have just bought The Darkness a few days back, this is my first game with multiplayer online function. I have never played a ps3 game online yet, however when i click multiplayer to play online i get a message that says ," You must have a NAT type 1 or 2 to play online" what does this mean? any help would be great

bloody NAT problems i've had heaps of problems with this rubbish (with azureus). if you type the address of your router in your browser eg. h ttp://192.168.1.1 (this is usually your defult gateway address) you should be able to select what NAT settings you want in the advanced router settings. if that doesn't work you might have to set up port fowarding so the ps3 has a clear connection on the network.

i don't know how useful this link will be: forum.portforward.com/

I typed in the router address in the browser like you said and it comes up with a screen thats asks for my ID and password but wont let me in??? Is it my computers PSN id and password or my computers id and password, i only know my ps3 and its not working, also i saw in my ps3 settings its set to NAT 3 but theres no way of changing it from my ps3????? also should i be doing thiis on computer NOT ps3?

Xzadur8 I had a nat 3 but now have nat 2 which is what you need! Go onto your modem settings page then port forwarding then there should be a dmz option in there enable that! Enter in the PS3 ip address and mac address you can find this out through network settings in the xmb!

jubbo83 says:

as far as i know the nat 3 setting on you ps3 just tells you that you are behing a firewall or there is a problem with the connection. (note: DMZ should be enabled on your ps3)

have you disabled the firewall on your pc and in the router settings? its not totally recommended, but firewalls can cause A LOT of problems with NAT settings. if your not sure about forwarding ports then turn the firewalls off.

as for the password, if you cant remember setting a password (do this is on your pc, not ps3) just leave the fields blank and click ok. that should get you into the router settings.

this is the link from the thread liam posted: www.ps3forums.com/ it shows steps and what ports should be opened on your router so a clear connection can be made for your ps3 on the network. there is a glossary of all the terms - its a very well explained guide.

hope all my rambling helps!

I have my Ps3 linked to my DAD's PC, which we had trouble with recently, so i think he has security block for IP router setting!!!! I will have to wait to he gets home from work ( hours away yet) I'l get him to have a look. as for the firewall on pc i haven't touched anything! You said" note: DMZ should be enabled on your ps3" i dont have any DMZ setting?? mines all Auto configured pretty much, i READ somewhere to have your UpnP enabled also, !!! yes your ramblings helped

If you still want to log into your router just try:
Username: 'admin'
Password: 'password'

Xzadur8 says:

Hihosylvia , I think that might just be the Map pack download in the ps store you need to download, theres new maps since the game was released, so you would need to update the maps.. Im pretty sure the map pack download in PS store was free?????????

07/25/2007 Adelaide hills, S.A

longarms says:

no no you dont need to map pack but you do need to downlaod the new updates for restance to be able to play online they are about 30-40 megs or so

liam_w says:

Yeah, longarms is right. Just a small update for online. But my PS is slow at downloading so I cant judge how big it would be.

Xzadur8 says:

With my modem/router unfortunately i cant put my PS3's IP address in DMZ because there is no option to and theres is also NO WAY to change to NAT 2 (with this router)
The darkness says i need NAT2, so i cant play that online!!! HOWEVER Resistance:F.o.M i can play online no worries with NAT 3, ?? its wierd.

Bev says:

Yeah at first I was playing Resistance without knowing I was Nat 3 but I got to Nat 2 which unfortunately your unable to do Xzadur8 man! Apparently there's some chat problems aswell with Nat 3 but I was still able to use a blutooth headset in Resistance whilst having Nat 3!

*Did you get my friend invite Xzadur8 mate?
