Hi, I was wondering, I have updated my PS3 to 1.8 firmware, how do I search for media server i.e. my computer files ? Thanks in advance for your help !

You can use Windows Media Player 11 or go to Tversity.com and try their program.

Once you have done that you need to start the program up, add the files you want to share to it, then go to your PS3 and search for media servers.

I've tried hosting a media server before but port forwarding on ZoneAlarm is quite a tedious task, however forwarding ports on my netgear router is rather simple.

Edit: Actually, on second thought, it's not really a simple task forwarding ports on my Netgear router; since the host computer has to share resources it would be necessary to assign all computers/machines a static IP including the router, however my dilemma is the LAN IP provided by my ISP (TPG) differs from the one set by my router. But I don't wan't to tie down the thread with my problems.

valeroso. i configured vista easy. If you are using xp then you need to use other media server program as no inbuilt software in xp to do the job but xp media edition has the extra programs to do the job

he he you lost your conection cause you tryed to change your ip adress yet your router has been told to give you one automaticly via DHCP so dont worry about that.
what you need to do is get it so that your router will allow the information to pass through it. this nothing to do with windows at all.

you might wana turn off windows firewall if its on or any other firewall you have for that matter.

but what you need to do is go in to your routers setings usaly you just type 192.168.1.1 in to internet exploer to get to them and put your computer in a DMZ so that all its ports will be open, if you dont know how to do that look it up in your routers maunal and or the internet

Yeah sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the media server when I mentioned the XP thing.

As for DMZ, upon further research, I, more or less have an understanding of the concept. In layman’s term, I believe that it opens up every port for all computers/machines within the network to access; however public users are denied entry? Correct me if I’m wrong please.

Edit: Actually it's okay, forget about it, I don't really need to stream media to my PS3 at the moment. Thanks for your help guys.
