You didn't get very far, the darkness is explained in the game. It's got a hell epic backstory that it explains to you, cause the game is based off a comic. You will go to hell and **** literally and fight zombie nazis and **** because you die and the darkness won't let you go and you have to go through so much **** fighting it and then using it. It's got a cooler story than halo - and the combat is sick once you learn some **** and eat some more hearts, you will get heaps of cool minion powers and ****.

the bit where the girl gets executed is hell gnarly and unexpected.

Dont be fooled by the DEMO though people, they left out lost of the good stuff out of the demo, (not to sure why, would have been more interest ) I am enjoying this game, im only halfway through level 2, but so far Im having a ball, !!! If you like first person horror/shooter games you will like this game. Im only playing on a normal tv without HD so i couldn't say how EXCELLENT the graphics are, but im still impressed overall

nah i do understand what you mean, i bought the 360 on launch day and played some amazing games (dead or alive 4, project gotham racing 3 and dead rising)and was amazed, i also agree that this did take the wind out of some of ps3 launch games froma visual perspective, although motorstorm, virtua fighter 5 and resistance fall of man look very very good, especially resistance, thats why im so looking forward to Heavenly Sword coming out, this game will be a huge boost for ps3.
