News \ GTA IV censored for Australia

According to renowned video-game journalist Jason Hill (author of video-blog Screen Play), Rockstar has produced an edited version of Grand Theft Auto IV for Australia in order to obtain an MA15+ rating.

The Office of Film and Literature Classification gave the game an MA15+ rating on December 11 last year stating that the game contains "strong violence, strong coarse language, drug and sexual references".

Rockstar said to Screen Play that the game had been cut-down to comply with Australian classification standards, but wouldn’t reveal what exactly had been cut.

Grand Theft Auto IV is due to be released in Australia on April 29.

It hasnt been said what has been cut so for all we know it could be anything. And why dont they make it R18+ then if there so damn concerned. Im 15 but i get my parents to buy things like that so they should have it R18+ or have the ma15+ cut version AND an R18+ full version.


But mine is on pre order and i really dont care, the only stuff thatll get cut is sex crap and who needs it in a game when all gta is, is killing everything that moves and stealing cars. It is still gonna be GTA no matter what.

I agree Cherrona, people should be given a choice of which version they purchase, not have it dictated to them!

An uncensored game doesn't automatically decrease the value of the game. That's rubbish. The quality of the game is still going to be great.
