News \ MGS4 to feature 90-minute cut-scenes

Computer & VideoGames is reporting that the latest installment of Hideo Kojima's blockbuster Metal Gear franchise, entitled Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of the Patriots, is set to feature whopping 90-minute cut-scenes!

According to the site, the news came from PSW magazine who has already completely finished MGS4 and spoke of the feature-length sequences, even though long cut-scenes were to be expected [with MGS2 featuring approximately 45-minute scenes] an hour-and-a-half worth of cinematics was totally unexpected, however, gamers will be able to pause and skip the long cut-scenes but the magazine states players will be missing out on some of the finely crafted examples of FMV footage anywhere in gaming. PSW also states MGS4's story is massive. The videogame equivalent of all three Godfather movies on one disc

This isn't exactly the most promising news. Think about it. Picture all the data used in order to make these visually detailed cutscenes. Not double or triple them due to the length of them (90 mins). Not to mention the physics and visuals of the gameplay thrown in. That's a LOT of data to be written on a disc, even if its on Blu-Ray format. How many hours of gaming would that leave us if the cutscenes rake in at near movie lengths?

But in saying that, I've always played MGS for the story rather than the gameplay. It's just one of those games that can very well be a movie on its own. I just hope they don't suck out TOO much gameplay.

A games reviewer; Shuman (from GamePro) said that he's completed the game twice and claims that's an exaggeration and not one scene even approaches 90 minutes!

no, i think its a single 90min cut-scene (ps3fanboy confirms that too..)
if you ever played snake eater, there is just over 2 and a half hours of cutscenes, so i would expect there to be more than 3hrs in guns of the patriots
