News \ Rumor: Sony creates their own Wiimote

So recently there was a rumor how Microsoft were planning to release their own version of the WiiMote but nothing came of it, for now of course.

It now seems that Sony is trying to rip off the Wii by bring in their own controller that will be similar to that of the WiiMote.

Could Sony Be Working on Something Similar to the WiiMote?

But how did such news of this come, well apparently a group of PS3 owners in California were given the option to test out a new Sony product, a product that is kind of similar in both look and functionality of the WiiMote.

The testers apparently gave it a test run playing minigames such as tennis, fencing and paintball. Also the demonstrator of the new product showed them it while playing Quake on his laptop.

However Sony hasn't fully finished the remote yet because of now it is dependent on a large tripod otherwise it won't function properly.

So are Sony trying to rip Nintendo off or is this just a rumor and if proven true how would Sony prove that it is their own creation, tripod perhaps?

As soon as people see a remote controller its automatically copied from Wii apparently....so every time one see's a T.V remote, i wonder if it was copied from Nintendo. Give me a rest. I actually hope Sony dont bring this out though. I've had a Wii, and the remote is utter junk to say the VERY least...but with hardly any good games on that system, i guess you have to brag about something... xD Sony doesnt need this rubbish.

I don't really see Sony supporting the PS2 as much anymore and bringing out a new control for it as they would probably lose money and then have to design specific games for it also shifting attention from PS3 to PS2 for a little while

But then again, maybe next week we will see the rumor that Nintendo got a bunch of testers to try out a new controller method. That uses a powered glove and sound waves to control their next console, just maybe.
