so after u installed the patch there are 2 new functions, ranking and online. Ranking doesnt show up much, somehow only 1 person is on it and there are different types of ranking but im too tired to read japanese. And you can download his replay i think but... again, cant be fxcked reading jap to figure it out.
When you go onto the online. There are roughly 4-5 different races, beginner, intermediate and pro. There are also 4-5 "online" time trials where you will record down your fastest lap and therefore determine you grid position.
Now onto the actual race... when you select the race you will be transfer to a find player screen, whole process probably take 2-6 minutes depending on whether they have enough players for the race yet.
Then you are placed in the loading screen, where they will flash between username and car that you are driving and others(Skyline GTR seems a favourite). Then the loading starts again.
Actualy race? does it lag? hell... yes and no. You actually dont lag, you can see perfectly but what lags is other players... if thet lag they will be seen as ghost cars that you can go through. But most of other cars are like bumper cars... they blink from places to places, those with good connection will stay on the track and be seen. Its hard to explain but its crap. I imagine i prob will be seen as like them as well.. blinking around ><
