Heh, heh yeah.
I did some more testing on the sensor during the day and it does work. I am going to try some viewing with sensor on only, see if it drops the backlight enough for me at night for dark movies.
All up though, after last night I'm more than happy enough with the black levels and colour I can get from it. The night before, when I didn't have light sensor on or power save, it was too bright overall and blacks too grey. I was wondering how to drop it back via the service menu when I stumbled across power save. And then the light sensor seems to do exactly what I want dynamically (eg, brighten it during the day, dim it at night.
So I'm very happy with it now.
