I've got my HDMI cable plugged in and my standard yellow, red, white cables... I go to display settings and change it to HDMI, but when I change to HDMI on my TV, it doesn't pick up any signal... Any thoughts on what might be going wrong here?

mmm this happened to me, with just the hdmi, change the hdmi port, if u got another one on the tv. have the ps3 turned on, then plug the cord into the tv, then my ps3 then showed on screen and detected the hdmi cord, i didnt have any of the other cords in. like the yellow, white or red.

I got it working... I tried your method Billz and it was either that or swapping the ends of the HDMI cable around, so it's working... The difference is pretty stunning...
BTW the clincher for purchasing the PS3 was the new firmware upgrade with DivX support (that and my love for the PSP)... I can use it as a media player without having to convert all my downloads...
Beyond that, I've set up a media server on my computer (TVersity) and my missus is probably going to cry when she sees the wallpaper & slideshows of our son...

just letting you know its probably not the best idea to hot plug your hdmi cables... theres some serious voltage running through them (put your hand to one side while the other side is plugged in if you doubt it!)... i know they tell you this for any type of cable but you can do some damage with hdmi to your components
