If you can't format to Fat32 with drives larger than 32gb, why not simply partition the harddrive into multiple 32gb partitions, and format those?
It's a bit overkill, but it'd work.

Not really, the way I ment was like the way the Wii does it. You can move your download games from the VC to a SD but they will still only work on that Wii System. I am sure Sony can do this, cant they?

The games get backed up when you run a backup.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, they don't work properly when you restore the backup.

It's formatted in FAT32 too.

It seems weird though. I put all my songs just straight onto the hdd, but i put all my photos into a folder called my pictures using my pc and now the ps3 finds my songs but not the photos which are just in jpg format.

Do I need to not put the photos in a folder in order for the ps3 to find them?

(edit - it would seem you don't my ps3 after 10 minutes has finally discovered the photos!!!)

Also had a bit of a load time (much longer than via pc) to find the files on the hdd, does that only happen the first time I use it, or will that happen every subsenquent time I restart my ps3?

In terms of copyright being the reason you can't store demos, if that truly is the case then why can you copy music film clips and trailers onto the ehdd both of which would be covered probably even more so by tight copyright laws?

This is actually a cooler idea than I realised because you can transfer the movie and game videos from the ps3 to the computer and vice versa.

However do you need something special on your PC to watch a 1080p trailer because they run a bit staggerish whereas the 720p trailers run smooth as.

Hope they introduce as others have said the 15 sec preview for external devices and also allow slideshows of photos on external devices.

You can however play songs in shuffle mode from an external drive.
