They do have people to report that sort of thing too. It's somewhere in the Security Centre of eBay (or whatever they call the security pages).
In the end it's not their fault if someone is a fraud. They try to stop that sort of thing from happening, but it's up to other people to report to them.

its very true, but pretty sad if you pay for something expensive and you end up getting nothing, and the person who auctioned it was a fake people these days

I don't know if people remember this auction, but I got an email from ebay (as I had bid on the item and communicated with the seller) warning me about the seller and informing me this listings have been cancelled by ebay...

I kind of wonder if any law enforcement body actually gives a toss about low level ebay frauds...

Thanks for the update ace. I was actually wondering what happened with these. Puts my mind at ease knowing I didn't miss out on a bargain. And there's a 'Report Item' link on every item's page, I've gone through it once or twice, and it is very easy and quick. I received an email confirming it, but I can't remember if it was computer-generated or personal and since the auctions come and go so quickly I never got a chance to see if it was followed up. I assume they'd take it very seriously though. People don't seem to understand how keen eBay are to get rid of scammers. It's really not in their best interests to have their buyers (and more importantly, potential new ones) worried about such sellers. They already have a bad name with a lot of people, especially those with selective hearing, who love to pick out examples like this. EBay are very keen to stamp it out, I assure you

That's another thing...
People have this mentality whereby if they get scammed on eBay they're like 'Oh well I learnt my lesson' but that really needs to change. The fact of thee matter is, it's illegal what they are doing. And the police have no idea how prevalent it is without any reports. So as long as people think 'dam there's 5-100 bucks down the drain. Oh well, moving on in life', the problem will never be addressed. And for it to be addressed, the reporting procedure needs to be a hell of a lot simpler. I've spent over an hour doing one once, and I don't think I was even halfway through. If the police can create an easy way to report online fraudsters and people refrain from abusing it, then it'd be problem solvered

I take it that sellers account has been closed. One less scammer on eBay to worry about.

Like Chuz said, even if it's only a little it's still best to report it.

When you just think of one person being ripped off it doesn't really seem like much. But when you think about it there are goodness knows how many more people being ripped off by the one seller at any given time. So that really makes a lot of money.
Besides, it's the principle of that matter too. Most people work hard for their money, only to have some lowlife make up fake auctions to steal it without barely lifting a finger.

I can see their point with that. They don't want to punish someone who may actually be legitimate. That would look bad for eBay.
