So I rang back today and got my label thing to take to the post office.
How many people opted to get their console fixed instead of a refurb console?

I went the refurb console 2 week option instead of the fix my console 4 weeks option cause It's an exact model that's repaired in a new shell, in the end isn't that what mine would be anyway...

Here's hoping I don't get some BS run around from them...sigh I miss the days when consoles lived forever.

What happens to all your data on the HDD ? I know you can backup game saves etc but will that mean you then have to re-download demos, DLC & full games from the PSN

sony as a whole is one big piece of ****. the only thing they were good for is producing good consoles that break and take ****ing ages to organise their ****. the fix itself takes about 20 mins most and most of that is dis-assembling the ps3 and assembling it back up. so this case - the original case of this post, is sony ****ing everything up, people being too lazy to organise their crap in sony, understaffed and overpaid. you get a third party to fix your console and it will take no longer than half an hour. ****en warranties. im calling now to confirm sony have recieved my pse for the fix. im going to keep on their case till it gets back, and if it takes longer than the quoted time im getting the obudsman of gaming commission (or whoever the hirake is) to **** them up.

regards,

i do feel sorry and send my love to all that have lost their loves

First thing they do is format your drive regardless of the issues.
I can't confirm if every bit of data was saved because I didn't restore it first to test, but I can only assume so seeing people upgrade there HDD to 120, 160 etc just fine.

Yeah you're totally right Fudge, I know as well as you do these issues can be fixed very quickly seeing the time consuming thing is opening it.

This scares me because its a 1 year warranty and mine is almost over. What happens after that period? I bet it'd cost a lot in which case you'd think about a local modder or whatever fixing it...

lol yeah right...how do they run out of parts, I'd seriously be speaking to fair trading or something your case is BS mate, you don't deserve it.

I spoke to a girl today and wants me to reset the defaults and something else before sending it back, she sounds so nice and bubbly...if only all their service was this good.

She mentioned they send me the box to put it in and they pay for postage, is that true? anyone else been told that?

I thought I had to go to the post office and pay etc...

For me, they sent me an email on the same day i called. They gave me a pdf doc to print out instructing the person at the post office of what to do. They should be the ones who provide the box. Although i have heard that people have had to wait for the box to be mailed to them, however i read this about a person in India.

yeah ur right about the same shell theory but there may be another issue. Heres my question, do they give a you a refurb that has been fixed with the same problem as yours? or do they just give you one thats next in line?

Heres my point, cause my laser died and they gave me a console which had (for example) its USB drive fixed, then that would still leave room for the laser to be stuffed seeing as it wasn't fixed the first time.

So if my theory is right, id rather they'd fix my console and i get the same one back because at least id get one thats been repaired for a major problem such as the laser diode. but i dunno

With me the first time I called the girl said "we send you the box to mail it in". Then when I called the next day to confirm its dead I got another girl who gave me the PDF barcode for the Post Office.

As for the refurb consoles she said they are consoles that are fully working and in a new shell.
She explained that they come in with a broken laser or whatever, then are fixed, checked for other faults and tested then put in a new shell and shipped as refurb.
So if that's true, in theory its got a better success rate then my current console because maybe I've got a USB port about to go...you never really know do ya...

I said I just wanted to confirm I'm getting a 60GB back, she said that I'll get an exact model CECHC02 or whatever, so they the same batch therefore identical consoles.

I'll keep an update of how the process goes for me, I sure hope you get your console soon sexyungoy!

Cheers dsreaper, i hope we all do . i duno though, its hard to think that when ive waited this long hehe but oh well.

I get wat you mean about the new shell. Its good they test and it and whatever and make sure its good in all departments. Is that what they've told you? Ive also heard of people's refurbs breaking down too..but maybe its the post? ie. shipping it back and forth(?)

yeah keep us posted on the developments...and il do the same. i was suppose to write a report on how things are and what to do when ur console breaks down. But that was when i thought i was getting it back earlier.

Thanks mate

Yeah that's what they told me, its fully tested before being sent and yeah refurbs can break down I don't doubt it, the post is also a risk factor...

That's an idea, if a guide doesn't already exist or at least a sticky people who've been through repair can post the process and what to expect.
I know personally reading about it from people here made me feel better about what to expect.

You know what the problem is? Sony just don't have the experience dealing with console failure. If this was Microsoft, they'd be on first name basis with all of their customers as all of their customers have returned their 360 at least twice. Microsoft have the edge on sony on experience dealing with failed consoles. When sony get a busted console, it is a case of "WTF? We weren't expecting that! What do we do?!?!?!?". With Microsoft, it is like "Hey, Sexyungoy, great to hear from you again. What's up? Oh, your console has red ringed again. Hehheh. No worries, we get that a lot. I'll send you a new one. We have about 5000 refurbished ones here so there isn't going to be any delays. Thanks for calling!"

It is as simple as that.

yeah ur right, BUT...if you read the introductory post i did, there were a lot of instances where it seemed like they'd just tell me something which was completely false just to stop me from calling/worrying about my console. They didn't really have the right answer for me and all i expected from them was the truth. i wouldn't of cared how long it took if they just explain themselves, but they'd just say things like "itl be there soon" or "Seems like we've misplaced your console'. All im complaining about is simply the quality of "customer service". Ive experienced working in a call centre and i know they have a register which states all the times you've called and what action was taken, (thats why when you call, they know the background of your inquiries because they have it recorded).

As for them being inexperienced...i disagree with that somewhat because of the fact that they'd use the same system of service with that of the PS1 and PS2 (and PSP).having said that its not the operators who fix the console, therefore there would be repair personnel too who would update the register which the operators use. So really the problem lies between the communication, or the system that is implemented that aids the communication between the two departments. And with the 40gb model theres a lot more breakdowns than first thought.

just an update for everyone:

I called the support centre again about my ps3 on April 1 after not receiving the email i was expecting. The same rep happened to pick up the phone but he gave me the excuse that the repair centre did not have enough parts to fix my console?..ok .

So i started writing a letter of complaint to Sony about their service and my experiences with them.

April 7 i called once more to see if theyd give me the same excuse but this time the rep had no clue as to why it was taking so long. I think they're on the same boat of confusion as i am about my console. Anyways, he told me that his supervisor is looking it up and i should hear from him via email pretty soon. Well im not holding my breath especially after what ive been through with them.

After all that i finally sent my complaint via email (because i didn't want to use slow mail). And this is my only option at this moment as they have no customer call centre for complaints.

Til the near future...

God that's so stupid and pathetic that a company as big as Sony can't get their ass into gear and take care of this.

Mate I'd call your local consumer affairs/fair trading explaining the situation and see what they can do.
This is beyond a joke and something needs to be done by a higher authority.

I posted mine Monday should arrive tomorrow...the wait begins...

Hey guys, I have sent another letter today (letter of demand) in addition to my letter of complaint. I gave sony 7 business days from now to reply as they never replied to my complaint letter (even just to verify that they have recieved it). If they dont reply by friday 18 April i will then continue pursuing my case with the ACCC and the south aus OFT.

ACCC: Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
OFT: (South Aust.) Office of Fair Trading

Now for the waiting game.

Im sure it wont go that far. Its not like they owe me $ thousands of dollars or anything. If worst comes to worst, itd be in a magistrates court where im either representing myself. What have they got against me that would need a team of attorneys?? What have they got against me to begin with??? they couldnt even pin me for abuse over the phone.

I sent mine Monday so it should have arrived Wednesday, I hate waiting and not knowing whether its there or not...I think I'll call sometime today to verify.
Wish they'd send me a damn email or something.

Best of luck with your continued fight mate, I hope they come through for you soon

Anyone know the failure rate of PS3's these days?

I just bought a 40gb model, i really don't want the hassle of it breaking down on me.

I actually still have a working launch PS2... so hopefully thats something in my favour, the fact that I look after my consoles. *shrugs*

**edit**
please don't see the above as me implying you guys don't look after your consoles.
