Playstation 3 Hardware \ PS3 unable to read disks

apparently $150 to get fixed, but there are guides to do it yourself, apparently it isn't that hard and the part you need sells on ebay for about $50, if your up for that sorta stuff.

luckily for me i haven't had this problem so i haven't had to ring sony, so i don't know for sure, but looking through this thread most people are saying sony told them $150. You don't have to get it done by sony though, you can get a technician to do it for you aswell.

But yea, I'd really love to know a definite price as to how much it costs to fix a out-of-warranty PS3 by Sony. I also gotta start a compile a list of 3rd party PS3-fixers here in Brisbane ...

Tempting route to take over Sony's 20-1mth wait should I ever need it.

Probably not, but you could contact Sony and see if alternative arrangements could be made...I had similar issues with a Wii in the past.

how did you notice it starting to play up 3wks ago? what were the signs? how olds your console?
