Justs feels like most of the heavy metal bands just scream into the mic i can't understand what there saying

Listen to the instruments, guitar is awesome in metal. And slipknot are just plain crap. Joey Jordison is the only ok thing about them.

Please. IOWA was Slipknot's downfall. Their worst album and, what I consider to be, a huge mistake. There's no structure in the songs..it's just down-tuned power chords and unimpressive percussion. And don't get me started on the vocals/lyrics. If I wanted to listen to some middle-aged man whinge about high school ****, I would have swallowed my pride and listened to Simple Plan. In short, IOWA = Opposite of music.

In saying that, "Vol 3. The Subliminal verses" was a BRILLIANT album. A musical feat if there ever was any. All the respect I lost (or simply didn't have) for Slipknot had returned. The stupid masks remained but for once that didn't get in the way of making actual good music. Vol 3 is their best album and what they should follow in terms of future releases. None of this Nu metal trash. Just straight up structured music.

*EDIT* Just listened to their new song. Started off great. Very "death metal"ish....until Corey Taylor came into the picture. Someone please put him out of his misery.
Other than that...they're really progressing with their musicianship. Jordison's blast beats are flawless and Thompson and Root's shredding solos are reminiscent of classic Slayer...but still not quite there. If the rest of their album is like this, I can see potential brewing.

elraro i agree i hated iowa compared to their other stuff, but your simplistic description of the musicianship is completely wrong i reckon. (do you write/play?) like the new song, iowa songs ALL had plenty of groove and structure, they just were more heavy on blast beats and growling - as opposed to stomp grooves and singing, an ode to more classic death metal.....i wasn't necessarily saying iowa direction is a good direction for them to be travelling though, just comparing the new song to something, and what the ****'s with his singing voice on this song?? he sung better on spit it out.

LOL @ potential brewing......when this new album is released slipknot is gonna reinforce their complete domination over the metal scene, cant wait for their next tour + Big Day Out visit hope the BDO organisers dont do anything stupid like putting System on after them next time, they nearly got booed off stage last time! which was completely unfair, but the crowd was still so brutally beaten by the 'knot, they just wanted more

At the end of the day, IOWA is just fast and brutal. Ok, so I may have exaggerated a bit when I said there is no structure in the songs. I take that back and give it back to a genre that deserves such an insult - grindcore. But in saying that, IOWA was still a very basic "metal" album. I wouldn't go as far to say that it's almost "death metal". It's still very much a Nu Metal sound. Just because you play in Drop D and constantly have double-bass drums flying everywhere, doesn't make it a death metal variation.

And yes. I do write/play. I'm a drummer and have written a couple compositions for bands in the past. I try to play and write on a more unconventional level. For example, I will rarely use a 4/4 clave unless it's to put emphasis on a certain melody but in other cases, I'll play a 6/8 clave to mix between drums and bass and provide a rigid and abstract structure to the song.

I'll stick to my argument. Slipknot failed at IOWA, succeeded with Vol 3 and look to be improving greatly based on what I've heard in this song. If anything, this track is more death metal oriented than the entire IOWA album. I wouldn't say they will dominate the metal scene but they will make heads turn. Metal domination is still reserved by Opeth

George Fisher once said: "If you're going to scream properly don't hold the mic up to your ****ing face.". Corey Taylor is a good lyricist, albeit IOWA and most of self titled. But vocally, he's not very good. He does have decent clean vocals and I honestly prefer him doing vocals for Stone Sour than Slipknot. But his "harsh" vocals are poor....very poor. It makes screamo kids sound like Psycroptic. They sound weak and borderline yelling (not to be confused with screaming). I guess what I'm trying to say is that Taylor's voice doesn't match the ferocity of Slipknot's music. That's it.

If you want someone who can really dish out harsh vocals and, at the same time, produce beautiful harmonies you really need to listen to Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth. They're one of the few bands that give meaning to music anymore. And that's not an opinion. Their music is hauntingly beautiful.
