I saw the fansub for this a while ago. I enjyed it. The only thing that really annnoyed me was the neon green colour of some of Unit 01's armour when it's first launched with Shinji as the pilot.

I'll be looking into this movie a little further. Huge fan of Evangelion even to this day.
But one question...how does it continue from the last movie (which was presumably the end of the series...full stop)? Or is it one of those movies that fill the gap in-between events?

these 4 new movies are an entire reboot of the series. So the first movie tells the events from the begining of the show up to the battle with Ramiel on mount yashima. (eps 1-6)

HUH WAIT WHAT?! NEW? CHARACTERS? Man I gotta get back into the loop with this stuff... So the next one hasn't hit cinemas yet has it?
One thing I loved was the sense of scale, it seemed to change a lot in the original series/movie but it stayed pretty consistent in this one. I loved the gattling gun shells crushing cars 
One thing I'm glad they spent time on was Tokyo 3's battle transformation, that's something that could have really easily been left on the cutting room floor but it is such a trade mark of the show, and it was really cool seeing it expanded like they did.
I'm still tying to stay away from plot talk because I won't get anything done tonight if that kind of discussion starts
Edit: Oh and Ramiel + shaping shifting + cool attack and defense = awesome

Yeh I totally loved the attention to detail in this. For the most part they followed the exact same storyboards that the original show used but its just so much smoother and cleaner now. Plus the sound track was absolutely excellent

Yeah the detail was insane, even little stuff like the barcode and 'made in japan' thing on the back of the nerve briefing document. Or the fact Shinji was actually wearing is Nerve ID card in the cage this time around.
And lol @ doritos product placement
I actually listened to the soundtrack before I watched the movie (i have a bad habit of that) and I hated it, but when I saw it within the film it worked really well. One thing that was really cool was all the old tunes reworked with the choir vocals, that was very cool!
I think I still like the original cuts from the TV series better, I have the complete S2 works and there's something about the synthesized soundtrack that I love

you just have to register (completely free) with 'Veoh' and d/l the client thing (20mb?).
then when you've installed it, search 'Rebuild of Evangelion' and hit the d/l button on one of the fan-translated avi's.
There are lots of trailers there too.. great find i must say!
