ps if you do get either the onkyo or the yamaha amp, id be looking at minimum $1500 for the front 2 - when you listen to the difference between $1 and $2k speakers youll probably think the same.

I use the Z-5500 kit (bought it last year) and have the fuse problem. If I turn the subwoofer unit off and back on the fuse blows. So I don't turn it off anymore. However, the fuse is very easy to replace (via a twist tube in the back) which I did myself after buying some fuses from Dick Smith.

hey Zoidy, I have this switch at home. They are great. I've had the 245c, I now have the 540C, and I also have the HDMI trilink too. Now that I have both PS3 & 360 using HDMI, I pretty much only use the 540c for audio switching via the optical cables. But it can also do data cables if you want. Comes with remote, and a special link cable to for a 360 connection.

If you have a Wii, then there used to be issue running it through the component connections, they fixed this with a free adapter they sent to purchasers, maybe they've fixed it altogether now?

For the convenience they add they are great... i.e. plug everything into this, and never have to look at the back of your tv (mine's wall mounted, so a pain to get to).

They also work really well if you use a Logitech Harmony Remote

If you got $1500 don't spend your money to buy a set of Logitech z5500. They are good if you're on a budget but crap if you have the money to spend. First off, I have had a pair of the z5500s. After 7 months of using them the LCD screen on the controller unit broke. I returned them (as it was still under warranty) and got a new set. After 3 months of getting the new set they wouldn't turn on. I couldn't be bothered getting another set so I just got a full refund from the store I bought it from.

Someone on this thread suggested to build up your system slowly and that's what I would recommend as well. You can get a damn good amp for about $700-$1000. You don't need to spend above $1500 for an amp. With the left over money just buy speakers. Or just save up a little bit more for speakers if it's not enough.

At the moment I'm running a Onkyo 605 amp with a set of Klipsch satellite speakers and Klipsch 10" sub.

Even if your not into Blu Ray just yet its worth future proofing and get a HD audio amp.

Start with a good base and you cant go wrong..... its like a car if you start modifying a swift your aint going to get much for a cicuit racer but if you start with a GTR then slowly working on things you will have a far better result.....

thats not too bad, considering my friend once took his PC speakers (JBLs, attached to his monitor previously) and fixed it in his car! it sounded like a tin can to me, but he was satisfied with it
