See thats the thing! I don't want a watered down version I want civilisation on PS3

That is a bit harsh. I think its really quite fun and addictive. I would have thought they'd include a bit more depth but it is still really fun.

Just speaking as someone whos been playing since the original Civ I'm actually really excited about a lighter version of it. I love Civ 4 to death and have lost so many hours of sleep to it, but it is such a bloated game at this point. If you'd never played a Civ game before, there is a lot to get your head around. From what I'm hearing the depth isn't so much the problem but more the difficulty settings, top tier difficulty is no match to that in Civ4. But as far as a quick play, lighter version of Civ goes, I'm quite happy with that idea

We're getting our review copy shortly, so we'll have a feature of it sometime this week.

Its got nothing to do with power, more the fact that this is on a console not a pc. They have tried to make the game console friendly, so you dont need a mouse to play. It still uses the same concepts as its pc cousin, it still has the same movement and combat features. What it dosnt have is left out to speed up the game. So instead of having to build workers, then get them to build a road from A to B, you now just go to the city screen and pick build a road. There is still a lot of depth to this game and on the higher difficulties is still dam hard to play.

I picked up a copy on friday and haven't looked back. I started out with civilization on the Amiga years ago and have played every single one since. This is a fantastic console version, with the time consuming stuff taken out. To anybody who likes Civ, i'd recommend getting this game, you won't be disappointed. I do wish that you could continue playing after achieving victory though (just...one...more...turn!)

I wouldnt call it rubbish, but at the same time I take back my pevious comment of not being "disappointed" and say that yes, I am disappointed. It wasnt the Civ i was hoping for... i figured that they had enough development time to refine many of the features of the game but failed in that respect. Its still a great game, dont get me wrong, but after playing it again and again - it really is a watered down version of the PC classic and i guess i was just hoping for a proper Civ experience on my console.

Official score: 8/10 Still great, but they lost me competely when they took out some of the trademark features of the franchise.

i could play civ IV for hours after the game had actually finished. I wanted to shove the remaining civilizations around a bit more before i finshed! oh, for all you other civ-aholics, there is civ anonymous

www.civanon.org/

Some gold from the site

I've been attending CivAnon meetings for approximately 18 months now. Partly because I began to get a perverse thrill out of wiping out entire civilizations with atomic intercontinental ballistic weaponry, and partly because they serve cake at the meetings. I like to kill, that's true. But I like cake even more.

God that game makes me drool! I cant wait! Did you hear that you can pretty much play the game with just a headset if you want, cos its all voice commanded.

But anyway, I played some more Civ Rev last night and I have to say, I can understand why ppl are a bit annoyed at the lack lustre options, but I think its a great intro to the Civ series for anyone who has not played before or anyone who just likes Civ but isn't as hardcore as others.

personally i like the sounds of it being a "lighter version", because ever since sim city, sims have gotten way too big and technical for my liking. fair enough if that's your bag, but what about the lighter options? they seemed to disappear with the emergence of the "more confusing the better" ethos...

bring back "ports of call"

Yeah it's definitely Civ 4 lite version thats for sure. I do wish that they had mate it a little bit more configurable though. For example, allowing you to set the victory conditions (domination only!) which i don't think would detract from it being a lite version. Still, bags of fun. I was going to play it last night but the missus told me i couldn't because, and i quote, "**** is about to go down between me and those annoying french. They've been picking me all game and it's time..."

This game isnt civ4 lite, its just like a remake of civ 1 & 2, but with way better graphics and a few more units. After playing last nite on king difficulty, the game gets surpriselingly much harder. Thats where you work out that you can go a lot deeper into the game. Your able to control city workers, pick to produce, gold or production. The units in this game work much better also. After combat your units can gain experience, and deppending on your tech level, gain new attacks, such as blitz, where you can attack twice.
Also this game has a good multiplayer thing, called game of the week, where you download the same map as everone else, and play to see who gets the best score.

It does seem to be like civ lite on the easier 2 difficulties, but on king level (level 3/5) your whole strategey needs to be changed. The other civ leaders, are much more aggresive and will go to war over just about anything. There are 4 ways to win:
Domination
culture
space race
economic.
