I am a huge fan of both. Neither copy neither, really. They're both great in each of their ways.

Haha, I'm just trolling. That Mushroomhead/Slipknot feud is never going to end...so I might aswell make the best and prolong the rage

Btw, that new Anathema song....oh, man. I wasn't expecting it to be THAT good. It sure is a little different...Steven WIlson's influence is clearly evident. I'm eagerly anticipating the release of this album.

The song almost brings me to tears. It's also the un-produced version, it's going to sound AMAZING on the album.

Also, I have decided to go to the Slipknot tour. Hopefully they will let under 18s in.

I don't see why they wouldn't. Under 18 events are usually restricted to pub and bar gigs. If they're playing at a huge venue such as an arena, then there shouldn't be an age restriction.

I agree, I just hope you're right. A majority of their fans are probably under 18 anyways

I remember these kids at TAFE were talking about how "brutal" Slipknot is...and how they're the "best death metal band EVAA!!!".

A classmate sensed my rage brewing and dragged me away knowing full well what would come out of that unintentional eavesdropping.

I love teeny boppers...

That's embarrassing. For 1 they're not even death metal. You should have dropped them where they stood.

Exactly why my classmate dragged me away. He knew what was about to ensue, haha.

Speaking of Slapnut, has there been any more info on their new album? I'm just curious...not expecting much...just like the new Metallica album...but curious to see what the outcome is.

Touring in September in case you haven't heard.

premier.ticketek.com.au/

Bought my tickets the day they came out. This will be the gig to end all gigs. Yes, I am extremely gay for Opeth. Martin Lopez and Martin Mendez made me proud to be Uruguayan.

P.S. Ticketek doesn't seem to be supplying the Perth show tickets...you may want to look into that. I know for a fact they'll be passing through Perth when they hit our shores.

Amen to that. I regrettably missed out their last tour in 2006 because I was down with a broken leg. I was so ****ty 2 months after the gig. I even threw my bike into a ditch (the bike was what caused the accident which broke my leg) and felt somewhat satisfied at seeing the heap of metal churn and snap down the rocky cliff-side. I eventually got over it when I went to see The Black Dahlia Murder...but it wasn't the same.

Come 2008...and I'm ****ting bricks. This will be a night to remember. This year has been fantastic for music, in my opinion. Iron Maiden, The Offpsring, Shadows Fall, Divine Heresy, Psycroptic, Porcupine Tree, Children of Bodom, Meshuggah, Carcass, OPETH and various fantastic local gigs. 2008 is bitchin'!

Fully agree on Iron Maiden, Carcass and The Offspring. Havent heard of those other ones. Queens of The Stone Age are another big fave of mine.

So out of curiosity what are your fave Opeth songs?

I f4rking love Atonement, The Baying of The Hounds, Weakness, Hope Leaves and To Rid The Disease, just to name a VERY few, i really almost love all their songs. And i cant say that about alot of bands.

F4rk!! Face of Melinda and Bleak were some of the ones i forgot to mention. Cant believe they're some heavy Opeth fans that realise how good they're like i do, only wish there were more people i knew who actually liked them or heard of them. I've been sending alot of videos to friends, spreading my love of them around abit lol.

Yeah I'm on the same boat. I have one mate who likes Opeth...but has only heard a handful of songs....and most of those songs are off Damnation alone. Ask him who Mikael Akerfeldt or Martin Mendez are and he'll draw a blank face.

Then again, I find solace in the fact that their name won't become some sort of posterboy for mainstream metal ala Slipknot anytime soon. Their music will forever be seen as beautiful masterpieces of music in general over "the most brutal death metal experience to ever rip your head off..EVER!". Get what I mean?

Well said, its just a shame that a band like them gets pushed aside and we see more Slipknot as you mentioned, and Slipknot, have absolutely NOTHING on Opeth. I'll remain a fan and will continue to buy all their albums, i just love them. I have friends that listen to Cradle of Filth, The Prodigy etc. I almost slap them when they show me that dribble. Honest.

slipknot and opeth are two totally different bands... its like comparing an apple to an orange. or a toyota to a bmw. i can argue that a toyota has nothing on a bmw, but they are totally different cars aimed at different markets.. hence, there cant be an argument there

back to music, slipknot are more thrash metal while opeth is more progressive/heavy metal. they sound totally different, and they will appeal to dofferent kinds of people. slipknot is more balls out head banging, moshing till you're numb music; while opeth create music masterpieces.. not many other bands can quite compare in terms of songwriting or playing skill.

note that i'm not a slipknot fanboy, and i listen to lots of other bands too..

pantera90 - sorry, i'll be heading to the sydney show for obvious reasons

That's a given. But we weren't discussing musical style or genre. We were comparing the bands and their reception or reputation in the media.

Slipknot have become somewhat of a posterboy for metal. When someone thinks "metal" chances are Slipknot will be one of the names popping into their heads. As such, they've become quite a commercial band unlike Opeth who are still relatively unknown amongst the mainstream media. And that's the way I'd like to keep it. The last thing I want is a brilliant band like Opeth to become a victim of commercial fabrication and butchered by teeny boppers trying to be "different".
