To the layman (me), wouldnt it seem like they could have added all this extra content out of the box (correct me if im wrong cause im just speculating)?

I reckon Sony are offering updates in this manner so more people make sure that their ps3s are online so they can develop a wider online customer base.

Just a thought.

I should I know I am doing a uni course in software engineering so i can tell you there not doing it for any reason other than it takes ages to make the software and get it tested. So there not just doing this for kicks. And like I said in a previous thread E3 is coming in July I think that’s when we will see a firmware 2.00 it would be good timing I think.

if you have windoes media player 11 you can just go to the libray tab in options and select shareing and turn your ps3 on and then enable shareing it will share any files that are in your media player libary but will only play what codecs the ps3 can already play.

PS: Windows Media Player does not have to be open for media sharing to function. The computer and PS3 only need to be connected to the same router. The router should be UPnP enabled (Universal Plug-n-Play).

Also, remember to add files to the Windows Media Player library so they will be shared. Media Player can automatically scan for files. When I browse files on my PS3, I tend to browse by folder, so I don't worry about organization within Media Player or playlists.

I got this to work but when i cancelled watching a film clip my ps3 froz

Mine has done this a few times as well, it seems to depend on the video file & streaming program you're using.

It turned off most times when I held the front power button down for a few seconds but I had to use the back switch once which was a bit dicey, it turned back on ok though.

Hopefully they iron out the bugs in the next update.

I had this problem hapen too and no need to turn your ps3 off if it isnt responding. just turn of what ever sorce your streaming from and you should be pushed back to the XMB with an error saying the ps3 carnt comunicate with the server.

P.s if your using media player you have to disable shareing for this method to work just truning media player off wont work as media player dosnt need to be on to share files
