Playstation 3 Hardware \ Looking at buying a Ps3

i was just wondering, is there ever going to be backwards compatability in the ps3 again?

Cos they took it out to make it cheaper right :S?

Anyways. Ill probaly buy the limited edition final fantasy VII console since they are probs gonna make a ff:vi ps3 game next

Had a 60 gig but got rid of it as wasn't impressed with ps3 at the time so went back too 360 ..... big fricken mistake got a refund went back to 40 gig PS3 better value and dont miss backward compatability as the 40 gig does play old ps1 titles the ps3 really doesn't do that well in upscalling espicaly to digital sets.

Even found on my wide screen ps2 titles were better played on the ps2 and not using the PS3 emulation which is how the 60 gig version did using software emulation not hardware like the yanks and japanese got which would be perfect but sony pulled the emotion chip to bring costs down.

I do believe the new sku's in america and japan no longer have the emotion chip in them and also are software emulation where us and europe dont have any at all since they pulled the 60 gig so really you be better off with the ps2 for playing ps2 titles that is of course you got a small fortune and can import one from overseas than it will only play that regions ps2 and ps1 titles as they are region locked still.

No probs with PS3 titles as half mine are from the states.

As for a FF VII console, that’s not likely to happen any time soon. As much at people want it to be true, it doesn’t seem that square is making a FF VII remake at the moment. But they may start one in the future .

well yes and no, basically Sony cant yet do full software emulation for the PS2 on the PS3. but given enough time there software people will figure it out and they will be able to patch it in via a firmware update.

edit: plus sooner or later you will need to upgrade the 60gig hard drive just like you would the 40gig hard drive.

Every PS3, regardless of model can play PS1 games, if that's what your after.

If you want to play PS2 games...

PS3 60g model = $800-$1000

PS3 40g = $600-700(rough estimate)

PS2 = $80-$200

Not sure if your following my train of though, but you could get a 40g, and a PS2 for something close to a 60g model.
