Social \ Football culture degrading our society.

I know I will get flamed by all the supporters of men wearing minimal clothing who like to pull other men to the ground here but I seriously do think football is degrading our society.

Remember, a football player is just a person... Sonny bill williams... just a person... Willy Mason... just a person...

They aren't doing anything positive for our culture. They fill up prime time news with useless facts about club x hates club y so they said some naughty words. Or club x gets less funding then club y so now everyone is angry and sad. Or the more prominent "there have been allegations of assault and sexual misconduct carried out by player x against so and so". THROW THE ****ER IN JAIL IF HE CARRIES OUT ASSAULT OR SEXUAL MISCONDUCT. Footballers seem to get away with anything. A small fine or a "ban from the club" at most.

Whether you realize it or not, your "sporting heroes" are littering the news with the filth they have been up to or about useless facts on how they bought a new t-shirt.

Meanwhile more important things could be on the news. Major political shifts and events which leave thousands dead happen every day. These events get 30 seconds of prime time air compared to the 10 minutes of "Sonny bills (epic) heartbreaking life story".

While I agree with you to some extent its not really the footballers fault that they are on TV all the time. The media is mostly to blame as they are the ones who are giving them all the coverage and exposure. But then that’s what most people want to hear about.

Its what people want to hear because it is what is presented to them. The media is controlled and conveyed in a way as to try to make us think in a certain way.... propaganda....

You can make the argument that football is degrading our culture and replace football with almost any topic, whether it be movies, video games, the internet, religion, drugs, the cult of celebrity...

The only one i agree with there is celebrities...

They also are flooded into prime time news when more important world matters are at stake. The internet is a great asset actually. Its the people who go on the internet to look at pr0n and celebraty pr0n who degrade our society.

I have no idea how pr0n got weaved into it. But I agree with the whole celebrity garbage.

I recall where almost an entire week of news was just centered around the whole "Britney Spears" drama.

The media is tighly controlled. We barely even hear any news about the war or ACTUAL world issues. I'm sure theres a ton of info regarding that, but god forbid if they lost support for the war, it'd be anarchy. This applies to mainly America, but we're just as bad.

Who is doing this controlling? The government? I think not there is a tonne of news and stories about the war in Iraq or in Afghanistan most people just don’t pay any attention to it. With shows like foreign correspondent, the 7:30 report and the huge amount of docos on SBS about it.

Just because it isn’t on the front page or on the 6 o’clock news doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.

I never said it doesn't exist. The issue is the fact that it INS'T on the front page. It's shoved off to the side, or just hush hush.

Theres a host of other key important world(actual news) issues that are not even reported on. Watching 2 year old documentaries of the situation in Fallujah is hardly what I consider news.

I'm referring to western media though, TV and newspapers etc. The internet is a seperate issue, information is infinite and anything can be found.
