Elefunk - 10/10
Ok so today Im going to review elefunk. No, not the (c)rap/hiphop kr3w that rocked your teeny bopper socks off back in twenty-oh-three
But the new physics puzzler from SCE which reminds us during startup to not let go of our controllers while they are in motion.
Elefunk revolves revolves around moving elephants over chasms and elephants on rocket cycles propelling themselves over even larger chasms.
Yes, thats right. You really do get to fly elephants evel knievel style thousands of feet through the air.
So what else is there to say about this game? Most of the gameplay revolves around you using a limited amount of braces, frames, ropes and other building equipment to build a bridge to allow your megaton wonder to venture its way to the other side. Anyone who has played the incredible machine (possible the best PC game ever) will love this game.
Of course your materials can only take so much stress before they break. The "life-like" physics is what create this game. From the second you unfreeze time and allow your elephant to start its journey across your deathtrap, chaos physics takes a hold. The ripple caused by your elephants footstep creates tremors throughout the bridge which intensify as it hobbles its way across. You can see materials bending, warping and stretching supporting the weight of your beast.
This may sound like fun. But it is not for the faint hearted or instant gratification types. It is not common for a bridge to collapse even before your elephant has set foot on it. Throughout each level you are given a limited amount of "strong points" which do not move. Over-reliance on these points may make your bridge to rigid and potentially cause pieces to snap off while your creature is mid transit across it (this all depends on materials used of course).
Of course there are many different ways to solve each level. Choice is astronomical, but so is the difficulty. I recommend this game to anyone who likes building (or more importantly those with an engineering degree).
But I find no real flaw in this game. I hate to say it but, for what it is, its perfect. The puzzles are hard enough to make sure you spend a large amount of time on each one. There are enough puzzles to easily fill a weekend. The physics are fun, natural and challenging. And lastly its the greatest construction game since the incredible machine!!!

challenging yet fun, (did i mention frustrating?)
lol@ engineering degree comparison... i had exactly the same thought
After a while you get the hang of it. I finished it the weekend i bought it.
yes i thought the same about the engineering degree lol. but Blue, you said you finished it the same weekend?! is it short at all, or was it just a whole lot of pure gaming time crammed into one weekend?
Nope its just short. After you get the hang of it, it only takes 2 or 3 tries to finish a level.
