Marvel Ultimate Alliance Reviews \ Detail

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance - 8/10

Intro:

Everyone who has played this game on another console should know what's coming... Despite the fact that I own (and have finished) the game on PS2, I have still decided to get this on the PS3 to judge how different it was... Everyone who has played other versions of this game will know exactly what's coming, those who haven't... Think of this game as a more extended version of X-Men Legends II, more heroes, different storyline... and MUCH better graphics!

Gameplay:

Very similar to previous games (X-Men Legends 1 & 2) in a way a very similar style, but with more heroes... Next-Gen exclusives make this a pick-up more worthwhile, a few extra heroes make it a bit more fun to pick up and play. Essentially you run around with your choice of 4 heroes and stop a cataclysm that's about to happen to the world (not only ours) and in a way, travel around multiple systems to save one reality or another...

As far as Six-Axis is concerned you can throw the enemies in any direction after holding [] to grab them and then spin the controller one way or another... Pushing the controller forwards will cause critical hits when moving the controller forwards at just the right moment. Also the Six-Axis seems to have replaced the puzzle fights against the bosses of the game... Which can make them much harder, as getting used to controls can be a bit harder!Good Luck with Galactus

Graphics:

Now this is one department this game tends to excel in... Full dynamic lighting and shadows make every level an exciting encounter... Full rendering on all heroes make 'em look like you haven't seen 'em before (unless you count the movies). Amazing visuals will await you on every level, making all encounters a beauty to behold...

Sound:

Unfortunately I didn't have a full Dolby System to test this game, but from what my simulated Dolby System allowed, the sound seems to go a long way to making this game a better experience... I'm sure if you have Dolby, you will be impressed! Overall all the effects that should be there, are there! Breaking boxes is fun, bashing in enemy's heads is even more fun! Try it, you'll find the same!

Overall:

One quibble I would have with this game, is what I would assume would happen in other versions too, is that in the most of the cutscenes for briefing you have the original team... (ie. Thor, Spiderman, Wolverine, Capt. America), which sometimes seems a bit inappropriate (despite Spidey's sarcastic comments).I would suggest this game if you haven't played any other variations of it on any other platform... If, like me, you have played a previous gen iteration of the game, it won't be much different for you (like me), but the improvement in the graphics department is more than enough to play it through again... of course all the standard fare Multiplayer options are present as well, but not enough to have a paragraph on their own...
