I've been putting money away for about a year to buy the 60gb PS3, and I have finally reached the amount I need (and it's about time, too!

). The only problem is, when I phone all the stores around Perth, I keep getting the same answer: "Oh sorry, we don't sell the 60gb any more, because it was too expensive and they stopped making them. We sell the 40gb, though. The 60gb might come out sometime next year."

For the amount the PS3s cost, I want to be sure that I am getting the best value for money, and for what I've heard and seen, the 40gb doesn't seem to be that great value for money. Somebody, please help!

If you want more USB posts just get one of those stands that have extra ports built in, not much you can do about the backwards compatibility issues, you could pray for that miracle update

Blaze might have the best option there with ebay.

My workarounds:
USB - I bought a 4-port USB Hub. I'm going to go buy a 7-port hub or something
HDD - I upgraded my HDD to a Western Digital 250GB one. I would really love to buy the new WD 320GB one though

(And push the 250GB into a 2.5" enclosure?

so if you want to play ps2 games then I'd sugest either keeping your ps2 or waiting till next year when they "might" release the 80 gig unit that will play ps2 games.

on a side note the 40gig unit will still play any ps1 games

Yeah, I think I'll go with the 40 gig and just buy a usb stand thing and possibly upgrade the memory. And with the extra money, I can probably buy an extra game + a controller. Thanks guys!

Actually i keep having to delete demos and various miscellaneous stuff cos my 60 gig is too full. Then again I do alot of downloading from our store plus the us and uk and hk stores too.

Considering a double layered blu-ray disk can hold like 50 gig itself, and the demo's are anywhere from 500mb to 1.8gig. I'm thinking it's not TOO far off thinking about a 120g+ model. Plus there are many harddrives around which you can actually replace your ps3's hd with, i think there's even a 320gig one that's compatible...

the ps3 just uses a standard laptop sata hard drive. they are very easy to find and buy. so if you want to upgrade your HDD latter on, it will be no trouble

Yeah that would probably be the US model (NTSC). won't be compatible with any games you can buy in Aus (PAL)

you can transfer you save and other stuff to an external storage medium (Eg, external HDD or memory stick). And then put them back onto your new HDD when its instaled into the ps3

Puting in the new HDD is a do it your self job its realy easy. Just look up some videos on how to do it on the internet, I think IGN had a good guide on how to do it

Why not? I've bought American NTSC games and they work perfectly on my Australian PAL system ...
Why wouldn't they work the other way around?

Evanpingu, have you considering ringing stores interstate? I know that EB Games on the gold coast (robina town centre & australia fair) have 60gb consoles.

The 40gb is good I brought one as a second ps3 for my fiancee to play COD4 with, but 2 usb ports are kinda limited.

My 60gb version is great for the PS2 backwards compatablility which i do sometimes use (Burnout Revenge & 007 From Russia With Love and occasionally FLatout2). I find myself constantly using the memory card readers.

As for USB... I use 1 for Recharging, 1 for wireless keyboard mouse, 1 for PS Eye, 1 for external HDD... and next year they have the HDTV addon coming out which will need ANOTHER usb port... so yeh i think if you can get a AU PAL 60GB PS3 its worth it.

Im so glad i brought mine when I did...
