Now, I don't want to start a RE Fanboy vs. MGS fanboy war here.

And I know both games haven't been released yet so don't treat me like a n00b and say "you know both games aren't even out yet?" and YES I KNOW THAT NOW SOMEONE WILL SAY EXACTLY THAT TO TRY AND BE FUNNY...

Anyway, last night I turned out my Gamcube for the first time in about 2 years and started playing RE4. I went on to play it for 4 hours straight. I honestly cannot believe how awesome that game is. I mean, it's just insane.

This comes about a month after I finally finished Subsistance on PS2. It took me a while.

I adore both franchise. Love them to death and for a while I was a die-hard MGS fan, moreso than RE.

But I think Japanese development has gone down an all too terrible path. You have "Japanese" games that focus heavily on cinematic cutscenes and complex storylines (ala MGS) and then you have action-adventure Japanese games that have Western elements (ala RE). I think that since the last game in each series has be released, Western-type games have overtaken Japanese games in appeal to the gaming public.

The title to this thread is rather misleading. I'm not saying RE5 is going to be better than MGS4, but rather that the game is going to, and deserves to, be praised more than MGS4 because Japanese development is losing steam in the face of westernized games.

Because basing opinions on thing's that haven't been released yet is smart, Likewise to the OP.

But at the end of the day games are just one big opinion anyway so meh.

Japanese Games have little to slight innovation as of late, i wish they were a little more nostalgic..

In japan, they actually have sections in game stores for...and i quote "western crap". Just like the two games you mentioned, the Japanese and Western market of gaming is completely different. The Dynasty Warriors series goes crazy in Japane, while it's love or hate over here. The exact same goes for FPS. The western market is crazy over FPS's, while in Japan they just shrug at it.

To get to my point... Apples and oranges my friend, APPLES AND ORANGES!!

Gaetano, do you own a Wii. The Wii Edition of RE4 not only looks substantially better than the GC version, it has the Ps2 extra content and the controls make the game so much better and more accurate to play. I finished the GC version 12 times and still bought the Wii version, it's so much better it might as well be a new game!
