Hey guys, i'm looking at buying a new TV, since my old SD-TV is a piece of ****. The new TV is for my room, so i'm nNOT looking for a 50" epic sized TV. I'm just looking for something small and reasonable to play my PS3.

So yeah, small Hi-def TV for my PS3.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'd go with a 32 inch samsung, 720p/1080i native! You can buy them for under $1000 these days! That should fulfill your needs!!

unfortunately this is not possible.. its one or the other as 'native' refers to what the actual resolution in pixels the unit physically has.. not what resolutions it supports.. sorry to be picky bout it.. but many people don't know the difference etc. and can be caught out for thinking they're getting something they're not.

If u can afford it.. go for the 'TRUE HD' sets that will actually say 1920 x 1080 native resolution. But depending on price .. 1366 x 768 still look great.

Because ya goin small i'd recommend LCDs.. but if u went past 32 inch.. i'd certainly still look at Plasmas.. very good value .. and not half as much trouble as misinformed people will tell you.. Panasonic is one company that still develops Plasmas real good and Pioneer .. so ones to watch for.

I have a samsung 46" F series 1080P (LCD) & a Samsung 26" 720P (LCD)
***got the 26" free with the 46"***
Both great TV's, but the 26" is a bit small (maybe I'm spoilt ) when set on a side table off the end of the bed. 32" would be ideal size.
If you want to sit up close to it, a 26" is great. (You might be able to find one cheap from someone who got it in the promo, as the promo ends today, these will still be being delivered for 6 - 8 weeks)

On LCD v Plasma --> Generally on same resoultion panel plasma will be better for movies & sport, but i wouldn't use one for gaming or as PC monitor as they are prone to screen burn.

Also the specs are not the whole story... you have to view each model you are interested in, as the picture engine makes a big difference to the final quality and colour intensity.

Interesting point: Later 2008, maybe '09 LCD's will start hitting the market with a cell processor as the heart of the picture engine same as PS3... shows how important picture engine is)

That sounds like a pretty awesome idea, are there any downsides, or "actual" downsides, not just speculations and theories?

The "downsides" would be:
- No inbuilt tuner HD or analogue.
- No picture engine, the input source controls the picture, ie PC onbourd GPU v 8800 GTX Ultra etc.
- Limited Inputs.
- No remote
- Generally no audio

Probably others, this is just what I can think of now.
Though all of these can be overcome, or may not be an issues on particular models.

The end of the day, set your budget, view as many possible choices as you can, and be sure to view both content equal to your intended use.
... Then buy the one that looks best to your eyes.

Also -> TV's always look smaller in the shops than they will at home. All the wonderful 70"+ screens etc, shrink everything around them.

how far are you going to sit away from the tv???

generally for a native 1080p set..

40" - about 1.5m away
50" 2m away
70" 3m away.

Well each to their own, but the general industy rule is about 2.5 x screen size, therefore:
40" (100cm) - 2.5m
46" (117cm) - 2.9/3.0m
50" (127cm) - 3.0/3.5m
70" (178cm) - 4.5m+ (if you've got a 70" 1080P, you should have it in a professionally designed & dedicated movie/gaming room, as you obliviously have the $$$)

there is a guide/chart for this - that rule not right - at those distances you are not getting the full benefit of 1080p.

and I do have a 70" native 1080p tv....
