So just wanted to know when you guys are done playing for the night who turns it off at the back of the ps3 or who just leaves it on standby (with the red light at the front)?
i never turn mine off. but if i did i'd turn it off fully. theres no point to standby

I leave mine on at the back all the time. So when i power off it stays in standby mode (red light). I only trust this because i have a good power surge protector which it is plugged into, otherwise i would doing the hard shut down at the back for safety.

I turn mine off completely for a few reasons:
-To save power! - Why waste electricity?!
-To protect it from power surges etc.
-And because leaving it on is a fire hazard. - Same reason I turn off my tv, computer and everything else at the point

Fire hazard, another reason why i always shut it down
I would look pretty stupid if my house burnt down

I have an auto shut off switch so no fire hazard for me

It sucks living in a country area, you're always prone to frequent power cuts

It's only because Western Power isn't fixing up the cause of power problems in the first place. Tree trimming, upgrades, or line washing. Country WA lines are also prone to pole top fires after an extended dry dusty period. A bit of rain comes along, shorts out the line and, boom, you've got yourself a 30' candle and power outage. Awesome to watch but unfortunate for households hooked up to that line. (I used to live in Jarrahdale and saw that quite a bit)
BTW my PS3 is left on standby along with my HDTV. Both are hooked up to a surge protector power board.

We had a thread about this not long ago ---> www.myps3.com.au/
and this is what I said-
Sony recommends you leave it on standby unless you're not going to be using it for quite a while. In the electronics world its is understood that the heating up and then cooling down of circuitry shortens its life. Standby means not letting it cool down completely.
