I want the disc... I just upgraded my HDD 40GB to 60GB but it can't go to the system. It says I need to put in the System Software update version 2.2 or more. I have no idea...

can you please explain exactly what is happening. then we can help. But there is no system software disc. you can only downlaod it.

So I just finished upgrading my 40GB to 60GB... but it can't go to the system. When I turned it on it says:

"Connect the controller using a USB cable, and then press the PS button".

So I did... connect the USB and press the PS button and this shows up:

"The system software cannot be run correctly. Press the PS button to try to restart the system.

If the system cannot be restarted, the system partition of the hard disk must be reformatted and you must reinstall the system software.

Insert storage media that contains update data of version 2.20 or later, and then press the START and SELECT buttons at the same time.

For information on how to obntain update data, refer to the SCE Web site for your region."

When I restarted it, it went back to the same point "Connect the controller using..."

So I put back the 40GB and it works again back to normal. When I put the 60GB back in, the same thing shows up.

So does this mean I have to reformat the 60GB? How do I do that when I can't even get to the system?

What he said. It doesn't need to be on a disc, just any 'storage media'. Download it then burn to a cd, copy to USB flash drive, copy to external HDD...anything really

I would format the 60GB if I can... but I just can't get to the system.

And there's no flash drive as it is originally a 40GB.

your backup drive must be formatted to FAT32 for it to recognise the files.

You don't have a USB drive? Even 128mb will probably do the trick!

The 60GB itself was from a PS3 (my friend upgraded it to 250GB) and I got the 60GB from him.

It was working nicely. Which backup drive do you mean?

You have to create a folder on your portable HDD named "PS3" and in that folder you need another folder named "UPDATE" for the PS3 to recognise it.

I tried my memory stick and download the update and save into it and I connect the stick to the port #2 and when I pressed SELECT and START still nothing.. "no applicable update data was found".

Then I tried switching the ports with the controller and the same thing.

i have had this problem myself when upgrading to a 250g HDD and it's foolproof if you follow the right steps.
