Playstation 3 Software & Firmware \ SingStar download speeds ?

Hey guys/gals.

We have SingStar on the PS3 and we're tired of the songs on disc after 1 nights 'singing'
We're all hooked up to the net so we've started downloading songs.

1 song is taking well over 30mins for a 65Mb song !!!

It's a joke, might as well be on dial up ( on ADSL2+ mind you )

I've tried all sorts of times thru the day, night morning...all the same.

They really need to get there act together or am i missing something?

Hmmmmm, anyone else have the same issue or is it just me?

i usually pause and then resume the download again but you might have to do it a couple of times

I downloaded GRID the other day, over 1Gb, quicker than i can download 2 songs off SingStar.

It seems to be particularly SingStar downloads that are at pathetic speeds. The files aren't big at all. 60Mb is diddley squat these days.

songs take normally about 5 minutes to download for me.

I can normally start a download, go sing a song or 2 and then the song should be downloaded.

Has it just been lately? cause it was just released in america, so maybe the Playstore servers are a bit snowed under with americans trying to buy songs. But yeah, i haven't seen to have any trouble.

I have had my ps3 freeze in the store on more than one occasion which is a bit suspicious.

Laptop got 10,000 kbps
PS3 got 1,500kbps

What the hell is with that?
Am i missing a setting somewhere?

yeah i just downloaded nigel for pain.... it was 6 meg and took forever, then i downloaded the GH3 song 80 meg and it finished first, so work that out.

Ahhhh, crap.
I've been downloading 1 song for about 1hr and the progress bar has moved about 10%. That's ridiculous for any time of day

Man thats a big difference....my ps3 is nearly next to my router i might try plugging a cable in and see if thats faster than the wifi.

I read elsewhere that 1 dude plugged a wireless router to the Ethernet, then used that one wirelessly to connect to his other router that was in the phone line.
Apparantly that fixed it, proving his PS3 wireless wan't up to the task.
I have a spare wireless router somewhere, gunna give that a go later

As far as 'Known fault' who knows, i still get connected and can download, its just that it's pathetic and different to my laptop that sits next to the ps3

Quick update after buying a 15m Ethernet cable and running it under the house.
Laptop - 12,000kbps (wireless)
PS3 - 1,500kbps (wireless, in same location as laptop,about 45% strength)
PS3 - 12,000kbps (ethernet hard wired)

Thank god for that.
I can't see the cable so that's fine and it only cost me 18 bucks.

Verdict = PS3 wirless sucks

(and Singstar songs now take < 5mins)
