Quick question just to confirm with you guys/gals -

If I imported a Jap PS3 -

1) Is the XMB and all console interface in english or jap?

2) Does it require a step-down converter? (I was almost certain it's universal, but have since read different opinions so thought I'd check in here)

3) Which region blu-rays will it take? (Was it Region A)?

Cheers

I'm pretty sure you can select the language e.g. on Australian PS3s, "English (UK)" is selected by default.
- I'd wait until someone has a definite answer on this one.

2) Does it require a step-down converter? (I was almost certain it's universal, but have since read different opinions so thought I'd check in here)
I think it will require a step-down converter, seeing that Japan uses 110V? And that the PS3 just uses that normal 3 prong computer power supply cable.
- I'd wait until someone has a definite answer on this one.

3) Which region blu-rays will it take? (Was it Region A)?
Definitely Region A.

Thanks for the heads up mate =)

If anyone else can also confirm 1 & 2 thatll be great, and if a stepdown is required, what do they typically price at?

answer to q2:

www.dtvforum.info/

i dont think a step down is required because jap has the same voltage as aus. only the americans have a lower voltage than the rest of the world (i might be wrong abt the rest of the world tho)

on a side note, i think the built-in adaptor in the ps3 steps down voltages accordingly. but you shouldnt worry abt that, as all you will need is a converter for the jap > aus plug, or you can use an old PC power supply cable..

q1: im not sure.. googling it now, but by default you should have the option to change languages when you first start it up

EDIT:

confirmed

Just a tip from importing a ps3 from another country..
If you import a ps3 from a different country eg, china, America etc, and
you bring it back to Australia, and it breaks, you cannot send it over to the Australian Sony, they don't take other countries PS3's, but apparently if you do send it to them it costs $150
But if you want to send it back to America/China's Sony HQ it will cost for the shipping which is quite alot.. so keep this note in mind if you didn't know it already

I've read all of the above replies, but I want to give you all THE DEFINITIVE ANSWER(S) from none other than ME...SONY! The "All things PlayStation" expert...

1. Yes, ENGLISH via the Language options via System Settings

2. No! A step-down power transformer is not required.

3. Region A, which is awesome, because it's the same as the USA and other cool countries.

1) If you select English on setup, it will be in English
2) No it does not. Check the DTV forums for threads on this.

I bought my white one in Tokyo in Feb, yes it has English menus, yes it has universal converter (I risked plugging it in first time, wore a nappy) and I buy my Blu-ray movies from America, cheaper out sooner and compatible with a Japanese version. The only downside is that the little info box on the right side cannot be changed into English like all other region ps3's so I just turn it off.

I believe it's: Go to Network, 'highlight' the Information Board line, press Triangle, click on "Do Not Display".

Wow...
4 PS3's...
Lololollolol, one in the bathroom
I see no point in having 4 ps3's...
maybe 2 incase 1 breaks and you can play the 2nd one whilst waiting for the first one to arrive..
but 4 is a waste of money...
While your playing your first ps3 your 2nd, 3rd and 4th ps3 can clog up dust, plus you have to pay for the consoles let alone the warranty's on the 4 of them
