I'm pretty sure PS2 Compatibility has been improved with the new update. I just tried playing Jak & Daxter which has never worked before installing the 2.40 update and now it works perfect.
Anyone else know of games that work after the update that didn't work before? Post erm here!

Probably a 60 gb by mistake - or he's fibbing with you, as those units dont physically have the hardware to run in, im certain as my mate has the MGS4 bundle console also, and it doesnt run ps2.

every ps3 has the hardware to run ps2 games. It's just software on the pal 60gb models. but ye, 40gb's don't have the software.

thats actually the opposite way round the "software" is in the FW which every PS3 has but the emotion chip is only on the 60gb JAP and US models. all of europe is software emulation for the 60gb.

That’s not exactly right. There are 2 parts for PS2 emulation. The PS2's CPU and its Graphics chip.
The original US and JAP 60 gig units had both. But the 80 gig US and the AUS 60 gig only have one of the 2, with the other being totally emulated via software.
The 40 gig units have no PS2 hardware in them at all. And Sony can't yet do software emulation for both parts of the PS2. So that is why they can’t play PS2 games

Apparently my mate got a 60GB console (2nd hand) for $450 because the dude was leaving Australia and not returning. Lucky bastard xD
