I've been trying to figure out if I'm ever gonna do anything particularly profound with this thing and I've come to the conclusion, no probably not, or at least not yet. Trying to put together any thoughts beyond the 'THIS MUST BE DONE RIGHT NOW OR YOU DIE' type mentally I've got at the moment is kinda difficult. And even if I did you can bet it would totally suck.
So instead I'll just show you what's been wasting my time this evening!
So anyway back in the day there was this company started up called Jellyvision (well actually it was called Learn Television, then Burnt Jellyvision and now just Jellyvision). Now Jellyvision is interesting because they invented a lot of the successful core principles behind ICi (or Interactive Conversation Interface, you know like on the phone when you're on the automated menus). Basically they're gig was making those menus feel more natural, like your actually having a conversations rather than talking to a computer. This was stuff like the use of tone, casual language and so on. Some of it's actually really cool, you can feel yourself kinda getting... sucked in.... to the authenticity of the performance, you can check out some examples at www.jellyvision.com/
But the above is only really interesting to people who have that urge to know about stuff they don't really need to know and will probably never bring up the topic around anyone (like me! except right now, this doesn't count)
What they also did was release a series of games, the 'You Don't Know Jack' quiz show games which were insanely successful. These were just awesome, pop culture triva with great performances built on top of these ICi principles so you've got your presenter talking in a really casual natural way to you. And the performance alone is awesome let alone all the jokes that went with it. So these became hidiously successful and spawn a whole saga of games covering all sorts of topics and also several general quiz games covering everything. Loved em, had so many good laughs! They were really ahead of the curve as well doing stuff like an online verson where you received a new, completely recorded with presenter quiz pack you could play online against other opponents. And this is waaaaaay before broadband was really that prevalent. So yeah, really amazing stuff!
But then they kinda vanished off the planet, much to my disappointment.
Anyway to cut to the chase (cause really, the above, you didn't really need to know, sorry for wasting your time), You Don't Know Jack is back now, and has been for a year or so in an online form. Each week (I thiiink?) you'll find a new 7 question quiz on there covering everything you could put into triva in a pop culture form (see the question in the picture above) and seriously, they're freaking fun!
